After a long silence, we are finally ready to share the big update from our development side with you.
There was a reason for that silence. Following the demo, and guided by the feedback we received from you, our valued players, we took Night Record into a full restoration. In some places we rebuilt it from the ground up, in others we reworked it down to the finest detail. All of it was done to create a stronger, more immersive, and truly "felt" horror experience for you.
During this process we touched almost every corner of the game: we deepened the narrative, rebuilt the atmosphere from scratch, added touches that make the fear far more visceral, and made sure your journey is no longer bound to a single path.
And the big surprise…
The game we have been working on for so long is preparing to launch on September 17.
Get ready to live that night with us. Don't forget to add Night Record to your wishlist and be there with us the moment it launches.
Enjoy the game… and good luck. You are going to need it.
We would like to share the work we have done since the demo in a bit more detail. Each of the sections below is the result of months of rebuilding.
One of the common impressions we noticed among players who tried the demo was that the gameplay sometimes fell into dull, repetitive, and drawn out stretches (such as taking a long walk from one place to another). We took this feedback seriously and worked to remove those moments. We have now crafted a gameplay experience that flows far more smoothly and keeps you drawn into the story without ever getting bored.
We reviewed the dialogue from start to finish and rewrote it to sit better with the game's narrative, pacing, and atmosphere. The characters' conversations are now far more integrated with the story; every line is written to feed the tension of the moment you are in and the unsettling nature of the world. The flow, rhythm, and timing of the conversations were also reworked so they feel like a natural part of the narrative.
Lighting was one of the areas we invested the most effort in for this update. We rebuilt the game's lighting system from the ground up. Light levels were reorganized, and light and shadow are now far more dynamic and believable. Flickering lights, street lighting, and ambient lights were redesigned, and the smoothness and consistency of the lighting during transitions between areas were improved. Darkness is no longer just empty space, it is the very essence of dread. How the light behaves when you step into a room, where the shadows fall, and how the darkness closes in around you have become some of the core building blocks of fear.
The game now includes updates that let you feel the fear all the way to your bones. From the atmosphere to the sound design, from the pacing to the staging of scenes, we rethought many layers around this feeling. We do not want to give spoilers, but while playing you will experience this fear firsthand, in the moments you least expect it. We will leave the rest to the dark.
How your journey ends is no longer tied to a single path. We added alternate endings to the game; the decisions and choices you make as you progress can lead you to different finales. That means a story worth rediscovering with every playthrough.
We made updates suited to the game's story and its period atmosphere, and added new locations. New scenes that deepen the narrative were brought into the game, and environment designs and location details were enriched to make the world more believable. New cutscenes that strengthen the experience also arrive with this update.
A major renewal happened behind the scenes as well. By rewriting the save system and the game's core foundation, we made it far more stable and fluid. We improved chapter progression and the overall flow of play, so that technical rough edges no longer pull you out of the world as you move through the story.
The main menu was redesigned; we refreshed the interface so that the right atmosphere greets you from the very first moment you step into the game.
Alongside all of this, we fixed a large number of bugs, made general improvements to performance and stability, and completed a thorough round of polish across the entire game. Our goal was to deliver a smooth and immersive experience that never pulls you away from the story, not even for a moment.
