Ore Bastards · published · build 25099790
Hey Bastards,
The new update is live, bringing two major additions to Ore Bastards: Drones and the new Engine Turbo system.
Your ship can now equip and deploy several different types of drones, depending on its available Drone Hangar capacity.
Mining Drones help break asteroids and bring loose ore back to your ship.
Defense Drones engage hostile ships and can even intercept incoming missiles.
Repair Drones boost your ship's field repair capabilities.
Shield Drones support your shield regeneration during combat.
Station Outfitter / Drones Tab
Drones can be deployed or recalled individually or as groups, and all drone controls can be reassigned from Options → Key Bindings.
Keeping drones deployed comes with a trade-off: they consume energy and increase your ship's signature, making hostile encounters somewhat more likely. Damaged drones can survive with reduced Integrity, while destroyed drones remain installed and can be rebuilt.
The goal is to give you another tactical choice: you don't always need every drone in space. Deploy the tools you need, recall them when you want to stay quiet, and build a drone setup that complements your ship.
Ships now have access to Turbo, activated by holding TAB by default. The key can be changed from Key Bindings.
Turbo temporarily pushes your ship beyond its normal maximum speed, with the strength of the boost depending on your installed Engine.
The first few seconds use your ship's rechargeable Turbo Reserve and cost nothing.
But if you really need to keep going after the reserve is empty, you can.
Keep holding Turbo and the engine enters Overburn, consuming permitted ore from your cargo to maintain the boost.
So if a fight goes horribly wrong and you absolutely need to get out of there...
you can burn your profits and run.
Better Engines can also provide stronger Turbo performance, giving Engine hunting and upgrades another important role in ship building.
Pirate wrecks can now occasionally yield Engines as salvage as well.
As always, keep the feedback coming. Ore Bastards continues to grow around the ways you actually play it.
Good hunting, Bastards.
