Welcome in, detectives.
You must be wondering why I have gathered you here today, on this fine Friday. Well, truth is, being a detective is hard work, and sometimes we all need a little journaling to wind down. I'm letting you into this little journal with a new series called The Speakeasy - dev diaries where I'll share all sorts of things from the minds of the Gilded Rune Games developers through the journey of the game (and maybe a bit more).
This week in The Speakeasy, we started simple. We asked the devs - What were your inspirations for making Dupery: A Game of Solo Deduction?
Luke: Watching people play Blood on the Clocktower is definitely the biggest inspiration for Dupery for me.
At one point I really got into the habit of watching games on YouTube while I ate my lunch. I really enjoyed it as I found the mechanical side of it surprisingly deep, and the social aspect of it very entertaining. I especially enjoyed the in-person No Rolls Barred games and, of course, the Blood on the Clocktower in Minecraft series by the Yogscast!
Lydia: I’ve always really enjoyed the Noir setting, especially when it doesn't take itself so seriously. The DnD series Mentopolis on Roll 20 is an incredible example of the tone I try to keep in mind for Dupery. It's a genre that thrives on pushing the over exaggerations of tropes and insane silliness of the ‘rogue’ detective who goes to absurd and often unnecessary lengths for justice.

And that's our little sneak peek into the recurring series to come, so I do hope you'll stick along for the ride if you enjoy learning more fun facts about the devs and Dupery like I do, detectives.
See you next week!
Hope wants you all to have a lovely weekend (and enjoy the playtest!)
