Hello, maid aficionados. We regret to inform you that we've made the difficult decision to halt development on the game and shelve it until further notice. We have to emphasize that ReMaid is not cancelled since that would imply that it will never be finished and released. That is not the case. We wish to come back and revisit this one day and complete it the way we always envisioned.
We've been working on the game for a few years now and faced numerous issues that slowed down the progress repeatedly including project corruption, mechanic revamping, etc. Even with an attempted scope change, we've just come to the conclusion that we simply cannot currently get the game to a stage where we are happy at this time.
If we were simply making a 1 for 1 remake of the original game with no real changes aside from better graphics and quality of life improvements, we probably could finish it but the whole point of ReMaid was to do that and expand on the story/lore as well as introducing several important characters. However, as well as the problems we're already experiencing, we're also now suffering from budgetary issues too. This means bringing to life those aforementioned other characters with voice acting, custom models, artwork, etc is just not feasible at this time. We always planned to go the early access route but looking at it from the customer point of view, we wouldn't be happy playing the game, enjoying it then left months waiting for the rest.
The reception to the playtest and demo has been somewhat mixed too. While some problems are more of a polish nature, others are more of the game fundamentals side of things. Ironically some of the new game additions which were well received were also criticized to be somewhat at odds with the established genre and theme that was intended. Namely the new emphasis on combat and co op modes that leaned into it. As such that content was removed from the game and will be repurposed into a different project. One that we anticipate will not suffer from the problems ReMaid encountered. Or the necessities it needed.
Our hope is that this new project does decently so we can use some of the potential profits to allow us to make ReMaid the game we always dreamed of. Information about this other project will be revealed at a much later date when it's reached a good level of completion and is good enough to unveil to the public.
We sincerely apologize to anyone looking forward to this game and hope that when the day ReMaid does release, that you will still give it a look.
