Hello everyone!
I’m Max, a solo developer under the name Regal Pigeon Games. Today, I’m very excited to announce my new game, Chivalware, with its publishers: The Arcade Crew and Imperfect Games.
Chivalware is a fast-paced action roguelite where you fight on a grid battlefield: as you evade constant enemy attacks, you must also match tiles to charge your weapons. The more tiles you match, the more times you can attack!
You are a Disk Knight, a legendary warrior who wields weapon disks. Your mission is to slay the Mad King, but as you carve your way toward the castle, strange glitches suggest something deeper is at play…
Mega Man: Battle Network was a huge influence on Chivalware! I loved the constraints of the grid-based arena and the different levels of tactical decision making - from choosing chips between rounds of combat to altering your deck of chips between encounters - but I thought the game wasn’t spending enough time in that addictive combat loop. At some point, I wondered: since you’re already on a grid, how would it play if you added a match-three system on top of it?
I made a prototype where tiles were actually weapon disks you could equip by matching three or more. I found that the resulting gameplay was intuitive and almost felt like a dance as you were weaving in and out of enemy attacks. I pitched it to The Arcade Crew, who were immediately on board, and here we are today, a few months later!
In this first demo, I really wanted to give you a good chunk of content to test out a variety of builds:
Play the first of 5 playable characters - The Disk Knight
34 out of 80 weapon disks to try
45 out of 150+ upgrades to unlock
Explore the first out of four biomes and challenge its boss: The Tyrant
Test your skill in an additional difficulty level (the main game will have 5).
As a developer working on a roguelite, your feedback is incredibly valuable to me. Please let me know what you think about the game (balancing, gameplay design, etc.) right here on the Steam Forums or on my Discord! I’ll be reading your feedback attentively as I work on the next versions of the game! Thank you for your patience and support on this.
