I'd like to update you on the current state of the game. Over the last 2 years I have been working on a total overhaul of the game. This is a complete rebuild from the ground up that was necessary to tell the story I wanted to tell. I know the game has suffered from a lack of updates due to this but it's finally in a place I think people can start testing it. If you would like to play the newest version I'll have instruction at the button of this post.
Video projections - this on of the primary means of story telling
Destructible environments - over 50% of the environments are destructible
Interactions - ability to pickup story centric objects and log them in a journal
update iteration speed - the beta branch is updated almost weekly.
This is a passion project by a solo developer but mainly it was the optimizations. The create a platform with 100% dynamic lighting, destructible environments, and runs on the Steam Deck was not easy feat but the hardest part is done. Now the focus is on the story and environments.
Find and report one of the (probably hundreds) of bugs to the forum. Obviously don't do this for free. Anyone who finds and reports an unknown bug will get to pick between a free version of the game or their name in the credits. Yes, you can find multiple bugs. I'll try to hand this out on a weekly basis.
Right clicking The Backrooms in your Steam Library and selecting Properties
From the Properties window select Game Versions & Betas and then select "beta".
Close the properties window and you should be given the option to Update the game
After Updating you will be playing the beta version.
