Today's patch marks the launch of the Gremlin Faction Update, with new cards for the Gremlins being released today!

Read more about the new cards here!

We're also doing some light balance changes, keeping with our two week balance update cadence in Early Access. Over the weekend we had our first tournament, which was a huge success and resulted in a lot of exciting games! While there was a definite skew of aggressive decks in the tournament, we felt that overall the metagame was in a pretty healthy place, and that those aggressive decks were varied, with interesting and fun play patterns. Rather than nerfing aggressive decks, we wanted to give a nudge to some Untamed and Coven cards that weren't accomplishing their design goals.

Balance Updates

  • Splatter now costs 4, up from 2.

Splatter has a huge effect on the game, acting all at once as a direct damage card, a board wipe, and a way to trigger on-hit effects. While we don't expect this change to particularly affect the card's playability, at 2 the card was under-costed for how much it gives.

  • Eater of Civilizations now drops its resource cost to 0 when it shuffles back in.

  • Eater of Civilizations no longer has Foretold.

Eater of Civilizations is meant to be a resilient top-end threat for Coven decks, but paying 10 multiple times often means that the card isn't accomplishing that goal. The new change drops the card to 0 cost once its shuffled back into your deck, which means that if you overcome the initial hurdle of playing the card and then finally redrawing it, it doesn't kill your tempo once again to replay it. Also, we're removing Foretold from the card. While thematic, it isn't a card whose design benefits from Foretold (unlike say, Culling Hour), and Foretold was silently nerfing an already weak card.

  • Feast Ritual now takes one less turn to complete.

Feast Ritual was the weakest ritual card, seeing the least play, so we're helping it out a little.

  • Boundless Cruelty costs 2 baseline, down from 3.

Boundless Cruelty's baseline cost was too steep, causing it to see little play.

  • Bullybear now costs 5, down from 6.

Bullybear can be a strong answer to aggressive decks, but at 6 resource cost was simply too tempo-negative to be good where it's meant to be. Bullybear's ability can be strong, but aggressive decks are not as stonewalled by the card as it might appear on first glance, so we're dropping the cost down a bit.

  • Cracks-the-Sky now has Overwhelm.

Cracks-the-Sky will probably not become a top metagame card even with this change, but at least with overwhelm this 9 drop will have more impact when played.

Deck of the Week

We're going to be pausing Deck of the Week for the foreseeable future. We think the challenge has a lot of creative potential, but for now we're going to make room for some other ways to engage with Wyldernook as our Early Access journey evolves. Thanks to everyone who submitted decks and took on the challenges, it was a blast seeing what you all theorycrafted! We're looking forward to bringing more ways to play to the community, including more tournaments in the future.

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where cards would sometimes not properly drag out of your hand if another animation was updating the position of cards in your hand (such as when immediately drawing a card).

  • Fixed an issue where the CPU attempting to play Rebirth would break the game server.

  • Fixed an issue where Confused Cremini would get a little too lost and end up in null-reference land, breaking the game server.

  • Fixed a typo in Dropped Loot's text box.

  • Fixed an issue where your mouse could get stuck if you were mid card-drag or targeting when dialogue appeared.

  • Fixed an issue where the chat bar would appear before opening the game.

  • (Hotfix) Fixed an issue where Feast Ritual wasn't marked as recently changed.

  • (Hotfix) Fixed an issue where Dreams of Humanity was able to target cards not in play.
