I have improved the vocabulary specifically for SHAD, EARTH, and WATER types, who have different ways of expressing their actions. Where types like FIRE and AIR are very outward-focused, other types have more passive battle styles. SHAD, for instance, shouldn't be attacking "through" or "with" shadows, but "from" them. Different vocabulary also applies to attacks that drain, siphon, saturate, flatten/crush, and more. You don't crush through, for example, you just crush. An attack that erodes works differently to an attack that surges.
If you're still paying attention, then this is all good advice on how to write better English. If you're interested in how I apply this kind of thinking to my books, check them out at www.akickintheteeth.com
