New Lore: The Umkira Manoeuvre

Hej everyone!

A new piece of companion fiction just went up on the blog: The Umkira Manoeuvre, a standalone tale in six chapters.

It's the story of the most famous battle in the Imperium's history, the one every officer learns from a single elegant sentence: the Legate, perceiving that the enemy's second line had committed, ordered the auxiliary wing to the right and took the horde in flank. Eleven words. Teachable. Framed on a wall in three manuals.

Thirty-one years later, an old tribune is finally asked to write the official account. He was there. He knows exactly what happened on that field, and it isn't quite the sentence everyone's been taught.

This one's a bit different from my usual lore drops, it's less about the world's systems and more about a single, quiet decision, and what a person is willing to put down on paper, or leave off it. No spoilers here, I'd rather you just read it.

📖 Read The Umkira Manoeuvre: https://www.imperium-aeternum.com/2026/09/12/lore-the-umkira-manoeuvre/

As always, let me know what you think, here, Discord, or my inbox, all good.

Cheers!
Peter

New development blog post is up! This one takes a look at diplomacy, specifically two mechanics that quietly shape how alliances actually behave: Join Wars and Return Cities. I cover how the AI decides whether to join an ally's war, weighing relation value against how many enemies are involved, and why a diplomatic AI will actually hand back cities founded by its allies ove…Community28 Aug 2026Development Update: The cost of crime, and how to fight itGreetings, emperors! New development blog post is up! This is part two of the Crime and Provincial Order system, following on from last time's introduction to the Sprawl Factor. Today's post covers what crime actually costs you, resource loss, slower construction, reduced assimilation and recruitment, and the vicious cycle that can develop if you let it run unchecked. But it also covers your fu…
