Paper2Galgame — Two-Day Launch Update: Live2D Support & Custom API Are Here!

Paper2Galgame · published

Hello everyone!

It has now been two days since the official launch of Paper2Galgame.

Over the past two days, we have received a huge amount of feedback, suggestions, and bug reports from the community. Thank you to everyone who jumped in early, reported issues, and even helped us track down some very strange bugs!

A number of updates and fixes have already been released.

The two biggest additions in this update are:

✨ Live2D Character Support Is Now Available

You can now import Live2D models for your reading companion!

Compatible Live2D characters can be imported through ZIP packages, allowing your companion to truly come to life while reading papers, textbooks, and other learning materials with you.

We have also expanded and improved the character system:

  • Added support for importing Live2D characters

  • Added character position and scale adjustment

  • Character artwork can now be previewed and adjusted during creation

  • Existing characters can be repositioned and resized at any time

  • Character layout settings are saved locally, in save data, and in Steam Workshop data

  • Added voice previews for characters, with play / stop controls

  • Your currently selected character will remain selected after restarting the game

  • Added JPG support for character images and removed the previous image size limit

  • Fixed several issues related to character artwork after Steam Workshop updates

Our goal is for your Paper2Gal companion to become more than just a portrait — something you can create, customize, share, and keep by your side throughout your learning journey.

🔧 Custom API Support Is Back

One of the most requested features since launch, Custom API configuration, is now available again.

You can configure your own API in Settings and use compatible model services for story generation.

This feature was temporarily hidden during the Steam review and compliance process. The necessary adjustments have now been completed, and the option has been restored.

For players who want to use their own models, access additional usage capacity, or experiment with different AI providers, you are now free to configure them again.

📖 Story Generation & Reading Improvements

We have also made several improvements to story generation based on launch-day feedback:

  • Improved prompts and LaTeX formatting rules for mathematical formulas

  • Strengthened consistency checks between generated story content and the original source material

  • Reduced cases where later chapters unexpectedly drift into unrelated topics such as Transformers, Tokens, or deep learning

  • Failed story generations no longer consume usage attempts

  • Fixed an issue where dialogue history could display both correct and incorrect branches at the same time

  • Fixed cases where custom player names were ignored during the “Raise Hand” question feature

  • Steam players can now use 30 Raise Hand questions per day

  • Failed questions do not consume a question attempt

  • Improved safety for rendered story content

Mouse wheel controls have also been added:

  • Scroll down to advance the story

  • Scroll up to return to the previous dialogue

Scrolling inside text fields, Settings, dialogue history, and other scrollable UI areas will not trigger story navigation.

🎮 Minigame & Visual Improvements

  • Improved movement and jumping controls in the parkour minigame

  • Slightly increased jump height

  • Fixed rare cases where the parkour floor failed to load

  • Reduced the blur duration after taking damage

  • Ending screens and share posters now use the current story background

  • Updated the in-game mouse cursor

  • Added fullscreen mode

  • Press Esc to exit fullscreen

🎨 Steam Workshop Improvements

We are continuing to expand Steam Workshop support, with the long-term goal of turning Paper2Gal into a platform for community-made characters and learning content.

This update includes:

  • Character expression images and ending CGs are now uploaded as additional Workshop screenshots

  • Character descriptions can preserve the original character prompt

  • Fixed an issue where files could occasionally be missing when uploading too quickly

  • Fixed an issue where a character could not be uploaded again after its Workshop item was deleted

  • Fixed artwork display issues affecting characters borrowed by other players

  • Improved local asset saving and cache refresh behavior

  • Community UI language packs subscribed to through Steam Workshop can now install and update automatically

💾 Save Data & Steam Cloud

  • Steam local saves are no longer limited in number

  • Save files can now be renamed

  • Rename saves using the pencil button or by double-clicking the save title

  • Improved Steam Cloud synchronization

  • Improved migration support for older save files and character data

  • Migration packages can now include images, voice files, and other character assets

  • Fixed incorrect migration result displays such as “Success 0/1”

🌍 Localization & Community Language Packs

Paper2Gal now supports community-created UI language packs.

You can now:

  • Export a translation template from Settings

  • Import your own language pack

  • Share language packs through Steam Workshop

  • Automatically receive updates for subscribed language packs

We have also updated and corrected various Chinese, English, Japanese, and Russian UI strings.

🐛 Other Fixes

We have also fixed a number of additional issues reported during the first two days:

  • Fixed the “A Little Courage” achievement not unlocking correctly

  • Reviewed and improved the trigger logic for other Steam achievements

  • Fixed unnecessary scrollbars on the language selection screen

  • Adjusted the first-launch flow

  • Fixed overlapping buttons on some character editing screens

  • Improved local account data isolation and desktop content security

  • Improved the Steam version of the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service pages

  • Various additional UI, stability, and quality-of-life fixes

❤️ Thank You to Our First Players

Paper2Galgame has only been officially available for two days, and we know there is still a lot we can continue improving.

Live2D, Custom APIs, Steam Workshop, and the character system are only the beginning.

We have been reading your feedback across Steam reviews, the Steam Community, Discord, Bilibili, and other platforms. Many of the features and fixes released over the past two days came directly from your reports and suggestions.

We will continue improving story generation quality, character features, Steam Workshop functionality, and the overall reading experience.

If you encounter a bug or have an idea for something you would like to see added to Paper2Galgame, please keep sharing your feedback through the Steam Community.

Thank you for supporting Paper2Galgame.

Now, let’s keep turning difficult knowledge into a Galgame together!
