Steam Coffee and Data Diel

Hello everyone,

I'm so glad I want to Seattle for the Steam PAX West 2026 Coffee Hours! It was a pleasant surprise and I didn't expect to be able to make it, but I was able to take off work for the day and make a trip there.

I didn't attend PAX, but instead just came for Friday morning and headed home afterward.

It can be hard working on a game without any feedback, but after a 2 month sabbatical, I'm ready to put some more hours into the game! I know that the next step needs to be better instructions in the game and describing what it's about, but for now, look out for another announcement that describes the features of the game, what it's about, and why we're making it. ːp2cubeː

Now, as far as why some people have seen the name change - the game is now on its 3rd name.

  • Solar Siege

  • Data Diel

  • Daybots

Solar Siege was a working title, but it doesn't have its distinct place in gaming - when searched on Google or the Steam store, there are many, many hits.

As far as Data Diel, I really liked the name, but it didn't quite click or feel good. I also got a lot of feedback that it didn't resonate with people and didn't slide off the tongue. Why I liked it: Diel is a scientific term describing a 24 hour period including the day, the night, and up to the dawn again. I really like this because it's what the game's about. It's not a survive the night game, it's more about surviving the day, but also knowing what it's like to work through the night. The colonists don't sleep - they just work - day after day after day. It felt like Diel captures this well. However, Data... was mostly just tacked on there and related to robots, so it just didn't fit.

For months I've been struggling with getting the perfect name, until I was working through the problem and somehow pieced together "day bots" - super simple, gets the main ideas across, and it's not crowded on Steam - now results! (for now)

I'd like to be able to put something on the public Steam page this fall, but as I work full time outside of this game, and have my own little family, we'll see how much of my time I can spare here. Thankfully, I have help - at work, at home, and with this game.

Thank you - really. I really enjoyed meeting you all and it helped so much. <3 I've forgotten some of your names, but thank you Fox, Kevin, Thomas, Jeremy, Zak, and many others I talked to.

Daybots PlaytestGame update6 Sep 2026Brief notes for update (2026-09-05)We fixed some of the issues that were found at the Steam coffee, as well as updating logos and brought the changes from the testing beta branch into the default. Didn't test thoroughly, but ran through a day without touching the robot. Definitely use F8 and send in anything that feels off!
