Meta Ball — Dev Update: Road to 5.6 and Public Launch

July 2026

Hi everyone! It's been a quiet spring, but Meta Ball hasn't been sitting still. This is a short update on what changed under the hood and what to expect next.

The world looks better

Meta Ball moved to a newer version of its engine, and the biggest thing you'll notice is the lighting. Levels now feel more three-dimensional, colors are softer, and the crystals actually catch bounced light from the walls around them. Shadows are cleaner and don't flicker on thin platforms anymore. Outdoor levels have their airy, atmospheric feel back.

Nothing to configure on your side — you just load a level and it looks nicer.

Achievements fixed

Some of you noticed that Steam achievements had stopped unlocking properly since the last update. That's fixed. All seven achievements — the first match, the crystal milestones, the level milestones, and the completion of the last level — now unlock as they should.

If you already played through Meta Ball and missed one because of the bug, replaying the trigger will grant it now.

Menus and buttons

The UI got a small pass. Buttons in menus and pause screens are cleaner: no more stray outlines around collapsed elements, more consistent look across mouse and gamepad focus.

What's coming

  • Full public launch on Steam — final testing is happening now.
  • Multiple languages — localization is planned next.
  • Steam Trading Cards and Steam Cloud saves are on the roadmap.
  • An iOS version is being explored.

Thanks for sticking with Meta Ball. Roll on.
