Dev Blog 09 - The Sneaky Way!

RetroSpace offers players a variety of ways to get things done...

...shoot your way out of a situation or go the silent and sneaky way? Your choice! Since this is a survival-horror FPS, it will often be more practical to sneak or distract your opponent, or maybe lay a trap, than to go for an open confrontation. Why? Because bullets are scarce, life is precious, and of course, no one likes a quick and gory death...

In our latest dev blog, we introduce the " sneaky way ", a set of methods that will allow the player to achieve success by stealth or indirect confrontation.

Sneaking tactics:

One of the most important factors is the lights! Lights can be eliminated in a number of ways, such as simply switching them off or even permanently destroying them via guns or throwing objects at them, etc.

No one can see in absolute darkness, am I right? Well... almost. There will be opponents who don't rely on their eyes, but for the most part, you'll be safe in the dark. Therefore, you should always be very aware of the light conditions of your surroundings and, of course,e the Thief-inspired light indicator of your helmet/HUD.

The other important factor is sound. Not all enemies will be equally sensitive to sound, but they can all hear you to some degree, so you need to pay close attention to the noise you make. A device that you can get as a HUD upgrade will also help you with this.

But sound is not just your enemy, it can also be your friend. You can also distract your opponents with clever sound effects, but more on that later.

Gadgets & Mutations

There will be a lot of gadgets and mutations (Mutamods™) that can be used to enhance your stealth capabilities. In many cases, you can trick your opponents' senses, for example, with a classic invisibility tool or give yourself an advantage that allows you to better assess your surroundings, such as the ultrasonic Bat Ears Mutamod™.

Distractions & Traps:

Stealth is just one thing. To outplay all enemies and obstacles, you'll probably have to use various diversions or even traps. These can be gadgets, mutations, or moves that take advantage of the game's physics and many environmental factors.

You can use a decoy, a fake clone built from a unicellular organism, set electric traps, build impenetrable barricades, or leave fake trails to lure your opponent to where you can lock them up or simply eliminate them. But you can even use Aurora 5's defense systems against enemies or even against itself.

When everything goes wrong:

Of course, if all tactics fail, you still have two options: RUN OR FIGHT!

Both can be valid tactics and can save your life. While running may always be the more sensible choice at first (especially given scarce resources), you'll have plenty of tools at your disposal in case you'd rather take the fight. You'll have 10 weapons and a number of mutations and gadgets to support your combat abilities.

But whatever happens, remember one thing! Use your head! (or someone else's...)

Achievements, challenges & difficulty levels:

In addition to all this, we want to introduce a range of difficulty levels and give even the most hardcore players the chance to personalise their experience. Non-lethal playthroughs will also be possible, with an extra hard HUD-free option (simply if you don't wear the helmet, the HUD will never appear) and the like.

We also want to give players who are not very familiar with survival horror or immersive sims a chance to enjoy the game. Our current plan is to have at least 4 difficulty levels, plus the aforementioned multiple options of which the player can customize their experience by the way they play the game.

About the development:

Thanks to our fantastic fans for following, sharing, and loving the game so much! Please spread the word about RetroSpace, as we are a small team, so this is the main way we can promote ourselves.

Many people are demanding that we give a release date, but trust us, we're not giving one because we don't want to fool anyone or make any promises we cannot keep. Be patient, we are working to make the most perfect and memorable game we can!

Thank you!
Stay groovy, and stay awesome!
