Soundtracks Now Available

I’m excited to announce that the soundtracks I made for Dissent on Mars are now available! There’s the Dissent on Mars: Daytime Soundtrack and the Dissent on Mars: Nighttime Soundtrack. You can buy them on Steam (here and here), or Bandcamp (here and here). If you’d like to wait for a small discount, they’ll be included in a Deluxe Edition of the game that will launch on Monday.

If you like spacey ambient music, I think these will be right up your alley! The first song on both albums was written in my college apartment back in 2011. I wanted to make a soundtrack that mixed other-worldly synthesizers with natural-sounding instruments. I wrote that song and several others for a game I ended up abandoning.

Fast forward 11 years, and I felt my vision for the old soundtrack fit perfectly with Dissent on Mars. I used the first song as a starting point and made the remaining 11 songs over a few months in 2022. Most of the songs took 3 days to make. The first day was for improvising a synthesizer part, the second was for improvising a melody, and the third was for a quick mix and mastering job. Sometimes it took a little longer. The whole thing felt like a jazz session; I would play some random notes and see where it took me.

This is the simplest batch of songs I’ve ever made; there are never more than two instruments on a track. My last few soundtracks are very dense, so it felt good to do something more stripped back. I hope you enjoy them!

Thanks for listening,

Michael

Major update8 Jun 2025v2.00 Now Availablev2.00 of Dissent on Mars is now live! There’s a brand new tutorial that’s broken up into eight chapters. We think it does a better job showing how the different economies work and will help with the steep learning curve. It’s broken up into digestible chunks, and there are challenges along the way to test your knowledge. Just like the old tutorial, you can enable it while designing a new societ…Community23 May 2025Devlog #6The new tutorial is content complete, so now I’m testing it with people and making edits based on that. So far, it seems to be helping! Hopefully, I’ll know when the update will be released the next time I post! Thanks for being patient with me, and I hope everyone has a great weekend, MichaelCommunity9 May 2025Devlog #5The new tutorial is over 50% completed! I finished the first 4 chapters that focus on the different allocation systems, and now I’m working on the chapters that focus on building, natural resources, and colonists. I don’t have a date for when it will be finished, but I wanted to let everyone know that I’m still working hard on it. Have a great weekend, Michael
