Hello Sim Racers!

We're thrilled to announce that we have just released the hot fix v1.17.1 for Sim Racing Telemetry on Steam! This update addresses a critical issue that some of you have encountered: a bug that caused automatic file format upgrades to fail, which in turn made the application unusable. We understand how frustrating this has been, and we are truly sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Our team worked tirelessly to identify and resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We are incredibly grateful for your patience and support during this process. Special thanks go to the kind users who helped us pinpoint the cause of the issue — your input has been invaluable in getting this fix out the door.

In addition to resolving this critical bug, version 1.17.1 also includes the following improvements:

  • Racing Line mode for F1 25: Now activated, complete with support for reverse tracks.

  • Minor Fixes for F1 25: We've addressed several small issues to ensure a smoother experience.

  • Other Minor Bug Fixes: Smaller tweaks to improve overall stability and performance.

We genuinely appreciate your continued support and understanding. As always, our commitment to improving your racing experience remains our top priority.

Technical Insights: Understanding the Bug

For those interested in the technical details, here’s a simplified breakdown of what went wrong and how we fixed it.

In our quest to speed up file loading and conversion, we recently introduced a new system that uses multiple threads to make the process faster. Think of it as having more hands working at once to get things done quicker. We configured our system to use all the available power of your CPU. However, on powerful CPUs with many cores, this led to too many tasks being processed simultaneously. This overloaded your computer's memory, causing crashes.

Here's what we've done to fix it:

  • Scaled Back Threads: We’ve adjusted the number of “hands” doing the work, allowing your computer to handle everything without running out of memory.

  • Error Handling: If something does go wrong during the conversion process, our system can now catch these errors and continue working. Files that failed the conversion will be retried when you next launch the application.

This issue was hard to catch because we were testing on a future 64-bit version of the app (!), which can access more memory, combined with our development machines having plenty of RAM. We missed how this would affect the current 32-bit version.

Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding. We are committed to learning from this experience and ensuring that your Sim Racing Telemetry experience is as seamless as possible.

Happy racing - The Sim Racing Telemetry Team
