Hello, loyal subjects of the Emperor,

We’re excited to bring you more development news from the blast furnaces of the munitorum very soon, but for our first update, we’re turning a spotlight on Auroch Digital’s boundless passion for Warhammer.

Visiting our studio, it wouldn’t take long before you bump into someone who lives and breathes the hobby, and our collective interest in the Warhammer universe extends beyond making games. Across our development teams, there are numerous Warhammer hobbyists, from the collectors and painters to the tabletop strategists.

WE PAINT...

It’s fair to say we’re a creative bunch at Auroch, so it’s only fitting we have our very own creative club where members of the studio work on a wide range of passion projects in their spare time, including miniature painting.

We’ve included a few pieces of their work below:

...AND WE PLAY

Every month, we also host a Monthly Miniatures Meet-up, providing a space for our teams to come together and play a whole range of tabletop games.  It is at this event where dice is rolled, battles are fought, stories are shared, and glory is claimed!

Auroch’s favourite factions and games

During our last Miniatures Meet-up, we called on the support of the Imperial Inquisition to interrogate some of our team about their interest in the hobby. Here’s what they had to say:

Aaron – Creative Director*

*originally came up with the idea for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun

What games do you play?

Warhammer 40,000, Kill Team, Warcry, Warhammer Quest, Adeptus Titanicus.

What factions do you play?

Leagues of Votann, Imperial Fists, Tyranids and Adeptus Mechanicus.

How long have you been playing the hobby?

After first being introduced 30 years ago, I’ve been playing ever since.

Will – Lead Marketing Manager

What games do you play?

Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Bloodbowl and more recently, Mordheim.

What factions do you play?

Genestealer Cults and Tau (Warhammer 40,000), Skaven and Flesh-eater Courts (Warhammer Age of Sigmar)

How did you get into the hobby?

My first models were a Chaos warband devoted to Tzeentch which I played at secondary school at a Warhammer Fantasy Battles Day. Some years later, I picked up some Kroot. There was a hiatus between coming back to the hobby, which I’ve been playing avidly since 2017.

Peter – Production Director

What games do you play?

Warhammer 40,000, Kill Team, Warhammer The Old World, Mordheim, Gorka Morka and Space Hulk

What factions do you play?

Dark Angels and Harlequins.

How did you get into the hobby?

Similarly to Will, I played as a kid and restarted more recently with Kill Team in 2015.

Stu – Principal Artist

What games do you play?

Warhammer 40,000 and Bloodbowl

What factions do you play?

Tyranids

How long have you been playing?

My first entry into the hobby was in 1985, and I have loved it ever since!

Dan – Senior Programmer

What games do you play?

Warhammer 40,000

What factions do you play?

Orks

How did you get into the hobby?

Gifted The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers big box for a birthday present back when, collected a bunch more LOTR and dropped off. Came back into 40k during the end of 9th.

Joe – Programmer

What games do you play?

Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Age of Sigmar

What factions do you play?

Imperial Guard

How did you get into the hobby?

Used to go to wargaming sessions in the Warhammer shop on Saturdays but had to stop when there was a timetabling clash. When I was older bought the age of Sigmar starter set and went to Warhammer shops to learn how to paint mini's properly.

Rose – Lead Programmer

What games do you play?

Warhammer 40,000 (though I'm more into building and painting these days)

What factions do you play?

Nercons, and I've just started up with Sisters of Battle

How did you get into the hobby?

I got back into the hobby over lockdown, and actually started when I got the 3rd edition starter set for my birthday, playing both 40k and Fantasy Battle (my beloved!) until around 2013.

John – Lead Designer

What games do you play?

Warhammer 40,000, Kill team

What factions do you play?

T'au, Imperial Agents

How did you get into the hobby?

I really didn't want to visit my grandparents when I was 10 so my parents dropped me into a game store in Limerick for the day. Little did they know this would be the most expensive babysitting option they would ever choose.

Andy – Associate Programmer

What games do you play?

Warhammer 40,000, Kill Team, Age Of Sigmar

What factions do you play?

Blood Angels, Adeptus Mechanicus, Skaven

How did you get into the hobby?

I played 5th Edition back in the day as a teen, then got back into it proper with the release of 10th Edition

Grant – Lead Designer

What games do you play?

Warhammer 40,000, Kill Team and Mordheim

What factions do you play?

Adeptus Custodes, Death Guard, and Necrons.

How did you get into the hobby?

I was 10 when my cousin introduced me to Warhammer and I’ve been playing since then. Doesn’t quite beat Stu’s record, though!

Grant was the lead designer on Boltgun 1, below you can see a scene he made and painted with a load of enemies from the game.

So, there you have it! All these activities contribute to how we make Warhammer games, fueling our inspiration and providing us with a deeper understanding to faithfully represent the tabletop in the digital, blood-soaked battlegrounds of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2.

We always love seeing the community’s own creations and paint jobs, so join our Discord and share your pictures with us (it’s also a great place to stay updated on development news for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2!)

And we'd love to hear your own stories! What Warhammer or Games Workshop games do you play and what are your favourite factions?
