Massive Pre-release update

Hello future Coffin Hunters!

Over the past month, Coffin Hunter has undergone a huge pre-release overhaul.

Since the store page went live, I’ve been expanding and rebuilding nearly every part of the game: story, progression, weapons, enemies, crafting, visuals, audio, events, and balance.

What’s new

A complete story path

The game now features a new and completed story, a final boss fight, and 4 possible endings. You now have a real goal: pay off your debt to the Helix, and you decide how it ends. No spoilers here!

New weapons and deployables

Combat has grown with new additions, including Shockwave, Rockets, Mining Laser, and the Bounty Hunter Beacon.

  • The Shockwave is a short-range weapon designed to help fend off Strikers that ram your ship.

  • The Rocket is used not only against Fighters and Elites, but also to help take down Major Ships.

  • The Mining Laser allows you to mine valuable materials from asteroids and minerals for crafting.

  • The Beacon is a deployable item that will summon one of the 100 named bounty hunters.

  • You still have your Plasma Blaster and regular stationary Bomb.

New major enemy ships

Three new large faction ships now threaten the Rift, presenting new challenges and opportunities: Jingcha Transporter, Polkari Drone Carrier, and Vudaigo Shield Breaker.

  • The Transporter, when destroyed, drops cargo for you to destroy and collect.

  • The Drone Carrier deploys 3 drones that fire homing rockets.

  • The Shield Breaker, when close enough, fires a beam that disables your shield.

Tier Challenges to obtain faction champion coffins

There are now 5 main Tier Challenges, including special coffins tied to faction champion bounty hunters. These are part of the main story path and necessary events to overcome so you can progress in the game.

Blueprints and crafting

A full Blueprint and Crafting System has been added, letting players unlock new content through crafting progression. This leads to meaningful decisions, as well as the need to think carefully about how you organize and use your gathered materials.

Do you save materials for crafting an item you will soon be able to purchase, or do you sell them now and buy core ship upgrades instead?

All recipes in the list are viewable from the start, which helps you plan what to save and what to focus on in future runs.

Massive feel overhaul

Visuals, audio, events, gameplay flow, and balancing have all been heavily improved across the game. Post-processing work has been done to make the game look and feel more spacey and unique.

Nearly all sound effects and music in the game have also been normalized and improved. Creating sound effects is a lot of fun. You might be surprised by how much of it I made using my own voice plus effects!

And more

This update includes far more than I can fit into a single post, but the short version is simple:

Coffin Hunter is now bigger, more focused, more varied, and far closer to its full intended form.

The Steam store page has also been overhauled to reflect these changes more accurately, with more media updates still to come. If you’ve been watching Coffin Hunter, now is a great time to take another look and maybe share it with your friends.

Your solo dev and friend,
Tim, aka “SoUlFaThEr”
