Early Access is right around the corner and we hope you are as excited as we are for Worship’s unveiling. This update will all revolve around Hubryus, the first unlockable god in the game.
Before jumping into it, we have a surprise to share with you;
As we're unraveling more details about the Sower of Insanity, we've released a micro-album of music tied to Hubryus. We suggest you listen to these eldritch hymns while diving into this update.
Under the starry night sky, a dark figure walked with purpose. Entering the clearing and leaving behind the dark tangle of trees and branches, the grizzled man looked up to the sky. His trembling momentarily stopped. Not out of sudden calmness, but frozen of overwhelming dread. Why wouldn’t anyone else see the truth? How were these fools able to go on about their lives, tending to their crops, all of it under the gaze of these horrors. As his stare shifted between the glowing celestial bodies, all he could see was monstrosities, biding their times until they would deign to devour the puny world he was standing on.
As his body continued shaking uncontrollably, the man finally knew he was at the right place, at the right time. The heavy burden he carried all this way on his shoulder let out of a muffled thud as it landed on the lush ground of the clearing. *“Who’s the fool now?*” shrieked the lone madman toward the bloody corpse of his neighbor. He was doomed; they were all doomed. But he and only he was able to see the truth. Maybe if he dedicated all of himself to the cosmic gods, they would spare him. Perhaps they would even let him join them if he serves well enough. One day he could be the one staring at puny mortals, worlds apart, unaware of their impeding demise.
The madman’s purpose was clearer than ever, his resolve blindly hardened. His last remnant of sanity frayed in offering to the lunar eclipse. At last, he began to recite the words whispered in his mind as he donned his hood and unsheathed his knife. Hubryus marveled at the birth of a new apostle as it continued to murmur a welcome gift to his ear.
Hubryus is a harbinger of transformation, an aspect of change. It warps beings, shapes them and creates a new purpose for them. Its mastery over metamorphosis is being reflected by its physical appearance: an ever-changing mass of tentacles with a plethora of eyes gazing through you. Through its experience with mortal and sentient beings, it found that the mind was the most potent for alteration. What it perceives as the pinnacle of transformation, humans see as madness.
Let yourself go.
Embrace insanity.
Cults devoted to Hubryus are but tools used to twist and shape the world through all its aspects.
While An-Ansgaidh is all about offense and carving your way in combat through raw combat prowess, Hubryus’ strengths are a bit more subdued. It will bestow you with ample powers to bring the horrors to the overworld.
Cults centered around Hubryus devote themselves to the art of rituals. But instead of using rituals to tear the flesh of enemies, their magic is more around sculpting and creating new beings into this world. Some call them horrors, but you simply call it clay. Clay that you shape with your own bloody hands.
While worshipping Hubryus adds more twisted beings into the world, you will also be able to create some of your own. The starting utility building you have will allow you to shape your own little beings into something uncharacterizable and prone to disturb the sane ones.
While not specifically tied to Hubryus, summoning rituals are making their way into Early Access for this first pass of content. Categorized under “Sealed Rituals,” these summons require a bit more time and skill to draw their associated shape, but your time and efforts will be rewarded plentifully. Summons come in all shapes and forms and will aid you in the most difficult of combats.
As a devout follower of Hubryus, you will start with one summoning ritual: The Goopling.
That is all for today! Hubryus is the first unlockable god of Worship. We hope this overview gives you a good idea on what's to come throughout the Early Access development of the game. We're looking forward to seeing what you'll do with the glass canonny nature of Hubryus' starting kit when the game launches next week!
Until then, be wary when glancing at the Eclipse; it might stare back.
