Hello!
I’d like to very briefly talk about the development of HMUR and who’s actually making it.

Strictly speaking, the game is being made by just one person — me. But my buddy helps out with some things: for example, human character models and sprites (graffiti and wall drawings).

Development started in February 2022. Back then, we just wanted to quickly whip up a simple retro shooter inspired by Atomic Heart, Dusk, and Hrot. At the time I had literally zero experience in game development, while my partner already had some background in Unity.
We split the work more or less evenly: he handled all the technical stuff and animations, I took care of 3D modeling, level design, sounds, and a bunch of other things. My workload was pretty broad.

In October 2023, the first version’s prologue came out. It was a janky retro shooter, but maybe with a few hooks of its own. I wasn’t too happy with it at the time, though surprisingly, player feedback was mostly positive.

That November I had to part ways with my teammate, so I started remaking the game completely on my own, now drawing inspiration from Hotline Miami, Anger Foot, and High Hell. Learning to deal with all the game’s systems like AI, shooting, and various interactions was pretty tough — but even I, not the brightest guy on earth, managed to pull through (whether I did it well or not, time will tell). Looking back now, I think that was the right call.

Here are some comparisons between the old and the new version of the game.

Now for the important part — the HMUR demo will be released in September. Along with this announcement, I have…Community24 Jun 2026HMUR Is a Finalist at The Indie Premier 2026!Hello everyone! I think I’ve finally reached the point where I can feel confident about how the game looks. Just as a reminder, this is my first game, and I’m developing it entirely on my own. Before/After. (ВИДЕО)
