Happy New Year. In the season’s spirit of renewal, I’m going to try and keep this short and to the point for once.
1-900-CULT is officially on a developmental hiatus, and it has been since June. This has happened to the game a lot, but previously never for more than a couple months. This break has been going on substantially longer, and is at this time indefinite. This is not, by any means, a cancellation. I love 1-900-CULT. Someday I would really like to finish it.
It is extremely unfortunate timing. My vision for 1-900-CULT has coalesced into an extremely solid form. I know very clearly what I want from the project. I simply cannot achieve it right now. The demo is relatively close to completion, but I have had to shelve it. It’s been a very long wait and it looks like it's just going to keep getting longer.
I’m not going to beat around the bush: money is very tight and I just can’t justify spending hobby time on a fan game, no matter how close to my heart it is. I’m sorry. Please try to understand that this hurts me a lot more than it might hurt you. But I have not given up on game development.
During the time of 1-900-CULT’s development I have always been working off and on towards other projects. This year I finally decided to go all in on something else. You can read more about that process on my Patreon, where I talk about the difficulties I have run into. I am making a video game. A purely from scratch experience that I think many of you might enjoy. I’ve gotten a lot of support from the rest of the Somewhere Else team to make this happen. As such, there is - and you might not believe it when you see it - a lot of 1-900-CULT in it.
It’s called COLLECT CALL.
I think many of you might really like it. If it’s successful, then maybe I will finally find our path through the Ivory Passage, and the stars will align. Thank you all.
