Improved room reflections
It has been roughly 2 months and about 200 project changes since the last Employee Update - Milestones - Terrain & Snow Rework because this cooking update turned out to be much bigger than expected. Let's get into the new changes to see what's in this update.
Cooking was long requested and we there were several things that we were excited to add before we thought it was ready to include. Stove
The Stove is a fond fan favorite from Winkeltje. It looks similar, but the model and materials still required quite some work to convert it from the old handpainted style to the new material style that allows for much richer colors and reflections. You can also see several smoke and fire particle effects which are easier to include and use a more performant method than was possible before.
Wine Cask
Bring your vineyard fantasy to life by growing grapes and vinifying wine.
Basket Press
Make delicious jams by adding some sugar and your favorite fruit.
Discover 68 new products and recipes spread across 2 new skills. Cultivate ingredients with planters and turn that produce into something delicious to serve up to customers. With the new Cooking and Baking skills you can achieve new masteries with pristine cuisine.
Build and decorate 5 new rooms to give a little boost to your craft.
Wolfaert's Tavern in town has received a visual overhaul to celebrate a new activity that you can work up to which aligns with the cooking and baking theme.
Below is a comparison carousel of images to appreciate the improvement to the Tavern as you flick through the imagery.
Mix and match new floors and displays in fresh new colors. There's a new wooden parquet floor in 2 colors and and mosaic stone tile floor in 8 new colors.
In addition, you can also play around with a total of 20 new color variations for the Haaften floor tiles bringing up the total colors for Haaften to 24.
There are 5 new color options for the Ekehaar display set bringing up the total to 8 colors.
Some cupboards and crafting stations have been resized in order to fit in a 1x1 or 2x1 space when we noticed shopkeepers try to fit in those spaces and were disappointed when this wasn't possible.
Grid snapping was also improved by lowering the snap increments from every 25cm to every 10cm. This should now make it much nicer to snap things into position.
Smelters and Forges now play audio and VFX to indicate whether it's active or complete.
The world in Faire Trade uses dynamic real-time lighting. We as developers don't know what you, the player, is going to create. That presents challenges for lighting. With this update we have revamped the system that attempts to create believable room reflections. Below you can see a comparison between new and old. Do note that these are internal development captures so they will be at low resolution but it does demonstrate the improvement in room reflections pretty well.
Next update is already in the works though it is too early to reveal what the focus of it will be. We would like to improve some quality of life aspects of the game and spruce up the overall experience. We are also trying to make the next update a bit smaller in scope in the hope of delivering it sooner.
We read your feedback here on Steam though not as regularly as Discord so if you want to get in touch about the game then we recommend that you join the community there.
Finally, if you deem it deserving, leaving a review on the Steam store page would help a lot to support the development of Faire Trade and we would appreciate that a lot.
