Keep it down, Landlady... if your husband hears us through the phone, we're both in trouble.
Welcome to the third devlog! Development is moving along smoothly. I've officially finished the content for Day 5 and have already begun working on Day 6.
In this update, I want to dive into how the pregnancy mechanics work and share some early news regarding my next project.
With the release of Day 5, I've implemented a randomized pregnancy check. Currently, the system rolls a value to determine if the landlady becomes pregnant.
The Odds: I'm currently using a generous 50% chance if you choose the specific route. While this isn't strictly realistic (real-world odds are closer to 10% to 30%), I want to ensure players can actually get to the pregnancy route without too much frustration.
The Feedback Loop: Currently, there is no notification of success. You'll only discover the result once you reach the branching paths after the vacation. The checks are happening in the background, not visible to the player.
I'm torn on whether to add a notification or not. I prefer the mystery of the player not knowing immediately, but I don't want to upset players who are specifically aiming for that route. Also I am not sure yet if I should reduce the odds to more realistic values. I didn't get any feedback from the early Patreon testers yet.
My journey into game development truly began with this project. To be honest, I didn't originally plan for development to last this long. I started this game as a way to learn the ropes of game design and figure out how everything works. Because of that, I made quite a few mistakes along the way and the project grew far beyond my initial scope.
While One Week Away has been in development for over a year and still has some more months to go, the experience has inspired me to apply everything I've learned to my dream project: a Sandbox RPG. This new game will feature multiple love interests and a plot centered on betrayal.
Release Plans: I am aiming for a short demo in about 3 months. To comply with platform guidelines, I'm planning a SFW (Safe for Work) version for Steam with an optional patch available through external channels or also as an DLC on Steam if that is possible. This will allow the game to comply with future guideline changes.
Meet the Cast: To give you a taste of the new art style, here is a first look at the landlady's sister as she appears in the new game: Stay tuned! I'll be revealing the looks for the new landlady and her daughters soon.
