Progress leaves no lives untouched, even those of commoners. Over the last few hundred years, large communal dwellings have given way to small, separated households that afford a measure of comfort and privacy. Though the innovations catalogued here may seem insignificant to alchemical engineers used to more outwardly visible applications, rest assured they have played a major role in the advancement of domestic life.
