The Vanguard Swap character Byakko can be unlocked by using the item Summoning Scroll - Byakko -.
In addition to following you around and fighting alongside you, you can take control of Byakko by performing a Vanguard Swap.
Byakko is a Dual Sword-wielding character who primarily uses Mountain and Wind element attacks, and features the new Laceration Gauge system.
About the Laceration Gauge
When you Vanguard Swap to Byakko, the Laceration Gauge will appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Laceration accumulates separately for each monster. Performing either of the following actions will display the target monster’s accumulated Laceration and its name on the gauge.
・Aim the reticle at the target
・Lock on to the target
※Monsters without a nameplate will not display a name.
※The gauge will disappear if 10 seconds pass after the reticle or lock-on is moved away from the target.
The Laceration Gauge can display a maximum value of 999, but Laceration can continue to accumulate beyond 999.
The gauge will reset if 1 minute passes after its value increases or decreases.
■How to Accumulate Laceration
Laceration accumulates by hitting enemies with normal skills.
For certain skills, hitting an enemy from the optimal distance will increase the amount of Laceration accumulated.
When you are at the optimal distance from an enemy, the lock-on marker will enter the Full Lock-On state.
Normally, Full Lock-On is displayed whenever the target is within the optimal range of the selected skill. However, some of Byakko’s skills will fall outside their optimal range if you are too close to the target.
Additionally, certain skills will behave differently when activated from the optimal distance, increasing their number of hits.
■Laceration Gauge
Ougi skills will be enhanced by consuming Laceration when the targeted enemy has accumulated at least a certain amount of Laceration. Enhanced Ougi skills will have an increased number of hits and greater power.
The amount of Laceration consumed varies depending on the Ougi skill.

Closes in on the enemy in the blink of an eye and brings both blades crashing down.

Unleashes a furious barrage of attacks upon enemies directly ahead.
■Ivory Fang Tiger Roar Rally
Inspires allies with the majesty of the God of War.

・Grants self 2 stacks of Guts (Recovers 10,000 HP once upon receiving fatal damage)
