Patch Notes - Claws & Chaos demo v0.35.13

Claws & Chaos · published 29 Aug 2024, 15:02 UTC

All eventsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

Another bi-weekly patch to the Claws & Chaos demo is here, and this one makes some not-so-insignificant changes to combat and balancing.

We’ve heard many of you loud and clear regarding the difficulty level of the Arena, especially at earlier levels. So, we’ve adjusted early game matchmaking to be more accommodating for new players.

Also included are some changes to the in-combat economy. Population Up costs more, but this and the Shop Upgrade now reduce in cost every round they are not used. Selling creatures will also now net you more gold in return.

Read on for all the changes in this version, and keep the feedback coming here on Steam and in our Discord!

Systems

  • Improved early game matchmaking for new players

    Combat Changes

  • Population UP button now costs 4G
  • Population UP and Shop UP buttons will reduce in cost each turn.

    • Ex: If you don’t press the buttons, they will go down in cost by 1G next turn, rewarding a player’s patience.

  • Sell Mechanic Overhaul

    • All units now Sell for (Tier - 1) Gold. At Lv 2 and 3, unit value is multiplied by the Level. Previously, units always sold for gold equal to Level (1, 2, 3).
    • In-between levels do not count towards Sell. So hit the breakpoints and level up your heroes!
    • Example: Lv. 2 Dog Paladin sells for 2G (1g x 2 lvls)
    • Lv. 1 Smoggy Bear sells for 3G
    • Lv 1.5 Smoggy Bear sells for 3G
    • Lv. 3 Smoggy Bear sells for 9G (3g x 3 lvls)

  • Consumables now have a 4 Stack Limit (unless flushed with Laxative)

    • To balance out the value of hyper rolling a single carry, we want people to diversify builds and explore different combinations. A unit can eat up to 4 Food before becoming “Full”.

  • Laxative Food added as a Tier 4 Food

    • At endgame, you may find yourself wanting to overfeed a unit. To do that, feed them a Laxative and continue consuming!

    UI/UX Adjustments

  • Equip and Consumables UI completely overhauled to represent 4 Food cap and reduce clicks.
  • Sell units region now extends across the entire Shop bar, making it easier to see and drag units to.
  • Hover mouse over shop items to show tooltips without clicking
  • Improved error message when trying a Username that is already taken
  • Bearbarian OTK skin adjusted to be less “inspired” by parody source
  • Tooltips added to Shop/Population update buttons to show new “gold save” mechanic
  • Audio SFX added for Loot reward video featuring Tanuki bandit
  • SFX added for achievement reward claim popup
  • Minor button/text adjustments

    Bug Fixes

  • On Deploy abilities will now properly trigger when combined into XP

    • Ex: Angora Grammy’s Gun spawns

  • Adjusted Megaphone radius bigger to better match visual radius.
  • Fixed Hat placements on some problem units
  • Adjusted angle of Hat placements (Waterstone, Lifestone, Crown)
  • Fixed Tanuki Bandit’s ability description
  • Fixed UI bug for Store UI on widescreens
  • Fixed XP Pips showing up when using a Latte to gain the last XP to lvl 3

    Roster Balances

    AoE units are proving to be too strong in the meta, especially with the overpowered Marmoset! We’ve adjusted all AoE attack radius to be lower, matching the Cat Witch.

    • Impact Range of Marmoset Ranger, Rabbit Middleschooler, and Dog Librarian reduced from 1.5 -> 1.
    • Cat Witch Attack Speed increased slightly to be consistent with everyone else (0.6 -> 0.67)

    Birds

  • Pirate Gully

    • Ability fixed so that Gully sells for the same total amounts after sell mechanic changes (3/6/9 Gold)

  • Lt. Colonel Marine

    • Shop End: Gain 2/4/6 ATK if you spent more than 12 gold this turn (up from 10 gold)

    Dogs

  • Dog Paladin

    • HP 55 -> 40

  • Frat Bro

    • New Ability: Summons a new copy of Frat Bro, but retains HP modifications from Food.
    • HP 38 -> 30

    Hooved

  • Archbisheep

    • New Ability: Negate the first 3/4/5 hits of Magic Damage.

  • Alpaca Rapper

    • Attack Speed 0.8 -> 1

  • Highland Warrior

    • HP 33 -> 40
    • Attack Speed 0.8 -> 1

    Monkeys

  • Marmoset Ranger

    • ATK 8 -> 6
    • ATK SPD 1 -> 0.67

  • Monkey Guardian

    • HP 90 -> 75

    Rabbits

  • Angora Grammy

    • Cost of gun added to shop: 0 -> 1
    • HP 35 -> 26

  • Books Bunny

    • ATK 7 -> 8

  • Jackalope Runner

    • HP 23 -> 25
    • Increased knockback strength

  • Rabbit Middle Schooler

    • ATK 8 -> 7

    Raccoons

  • Shady Food Vendor

    • ATK SPD 0.5 -> 1

    Rodents

  • Chef Rat Louie

    • Now attacks twice
    • ATK 7 -> 4

    Equipment

  • Carrot

    • Cost 3 -> 2

  • Shackle

    • Cost 3 -> 1
    • Effect duration 5 -> 2 sec
  • More from Claws & Chaos
