Today we’ll tell you a bit more about the amazing world of Dragon Shelter, where you’ll have to rebuild your farm with the help of cute little dragons.
Dragon Shelter is a single-player farm-life sim developed for PC.
Our primary inspiration for the art style comes from the worlds crafted by Ghibli. We are developing a distinctive visual style centered around watercolors and the ambiance found in Miyazaki's realms. With this approach, we aim to capture the emotions and sentiments of both characters and dragons, ultimately crafting a unique atmosphere that will captivate you from the very first moments of the game.
The concept of my game revolves around assisting dragons and rejuvenating both an aged farm and an adjacent city.
Here, I'm sharing my journey of exploring various art styles for the buildings:

All dragons have different elements, and consequently, diverse personalities and behaviors.

Surprised by a fish
We aim to create an engaging system for player-dragon interaction where dragons respond to what players teach them. Here's how it works:
- Dragons can equip various items.
- However, the chosen item must align with the dragon's preferences.
- These preferences are influenced by the dragon's character and their current activities.
- Players have the power to shape the dragon's personality and preferences through their interactions.
I've included a brief prototype below, demonstrating dragons picking up and adorning themselves with assorted items from the farm. Please keep in mind that it's still a prototype and does not showcase the final art style. However, it does convey the core concept. The art style is expected to resemble the images provided below (or at least I'm optimistic it will).
