Thank you to all of the players out there who are enjoying their trips down the river! We hope you are having a great time and looking forward to seeing a lot more of you in the days to come.
We are working on improving controller conditions as quickly as possible as well as establishing new methods for online play.
In the future we intend to use this space to post weekly to talk a little about the world overall and the things to come in game for the full release!
Let’s start off talking about the 2 big issues going on right now Controllers and On-line play options.
If you haven’t seen the posts in the forums we have gathered them here for you.
Controllers
First off, please be aware that keyboards are disabled for the time being. You will need a controller to play.
We are trying our best to support more and more controllers. If your controller doesn't work, here are some notes for you:
- Which controllers are you using? The Game has been tested mostly with Xbox and PS4 Controller, but ALL the major brands should be supported.
Please consider using a wired Xbox or PlayStation controller if you have one. - There have been a few issues with Bluetooth controllers.
Are you sure your Bluetooth controller is not working only with River Tails, or is it also not working for other games? (If it's only on River Tails, please report!) - In the last Update of the game we removed the Keyboard controller support as the quality of the gameplay and key binding needed some balancing.
We are going to patch this soon so you can play with a Keyboard
(Keep in mind that we don't recommend playing the game with a Keyboard but with a controller with analog sticks for the best experience). - Before reporting a bug please make sure you go to your Steam preferences and you DISABLE all the Steam controller override options.
(on the Steam app top left corner Steam>>Settings>>Controller>>General Controller Settings).
If this does not still work, please test by ENABLING every option one by one till you have a good response from your controller.
If there are still issues please report with details. - Even if you select the Co-op mode, the tutorial of the game (first minute of gameplay) will be a single-player level in order to get every player comfortable with their character.
The true co-op experience will start after the single-player Furple section. - Some issues have been found with the PS5 controller, please make sure it's also not working on other games before you bug report this to us.
We are doing our best to make every controller and keyboard work on River Tails.
Online Play
We are currently running tests of the Steam Remote Play and Parsec options for River Tails.
We are doing out best to make both options work as best as possible and hope to patch to improve conditions during early access while we investigate other options.
Playing with Parsec
If you want to try playing with Parsec (https://parsec.app/), please follow the steps below.
- One person should own a copy of the game (Player1)
- Both people make a Parsec account and the person who owns the game(P1) invites the remote person to join the session (P2) via Parsec
- The person who's hosting(P1) should make sure they have settings and permissions for "Gamepad Access" given to the guest(P2) on Parsec's settings.
You can now play together online in co-op mode.
Please remember that whether with Steam Remote Play or Parsec:
- At the moment the person who hosts(P1), will be Furple the Cat, while the guest(P2) will be Finn the Fish.
It is not possible to select between the characters at this time. We are working on patching this as well to allow players to choose their favorite character to play. - When using Parsec, Steam will sometimes override the Gamepad controls.
The player who is the Parsec guest(P2) should make sure to close Steam to avoid this from happening.
We know these are all temporary solutions, but it's working well!
We are going to continue to test and update the game in order to make Steam Remote Play and other options work for all players!
Check back next week for more updates and maybe some insight into the full game.
