Hello, fellow Touhou fans! It's time to tell you about our future plans!
According to our conservative estimates, the next update will be 3-4 times larger than the current one. In many ways, its visual component is mostly ready, because events in different versions will take place in the same locations where they took place in the old version of the game (the one that was released not on Steam). The problem lies solely in the amount of text: "3 times more" means "3 times more fundamentally different content", because Reimu and Co. will have completely different guesses about what is happening in different variants of the plot. And only the English translation of this entire text can take around 1000-2000 USD, which is quite a lot for us.
But we do not despair - Touhou fans from other countries have contacted us and expressed their desire to participate in the translation of the game into their native languages. And now they are bravely translating entire game into Spanish, Portuguese, two versions of Chinese (traditional and simplified) and Japanese (very slowly). We hope that the increase in audience reach will bring us enough money so that we can continue to develop the game on a free basis, but if this still does not happen, then we will have to switch to a paid basis now. The Prologue will remain free, but access to all further content, including the Destitute Chapter, will be through paid DLC.
So in the near future our main goal will be to promote the game and gradually draw the necessary visual for the next update. After the release of all language packs, we will decide how successful the PR was and when exactly you should expect release of the new update.
