Murder Is Game Over: Streaming Death · published
Murder Is Game Over: Streaming Death will be officially released on July 18th, 2023.
This game is the sequel to Murder Is Game Over and expands on the ideas of the first game. The main new mechanic I wanted to add was a Scooby-Doo-inspired scene where you get chased around by a "ghost". This led to the decision to have the setting be in an area with wide spaces rather than a castle with small rooms like the first one. So I started researching ghost town legends in areas that I could visit and try to emulate the feeling of being in those places with pixel art tiles. I came upon Dogtown, in Gloucester, MA, and spent some time researching legends of Cape Ann and the north shore, including the Salem witch trials. The climax of this story takes place in an abandoned, failed Puritan settlement like Dogtown which was cursed by a victim of the witch trial hysteria.
Some additional new features include a metal detector mini-game where you search for a clue based on hearing a "beep" get louder as you get closer, a timed level where you need to complete it before the countdown runs out, and an optional "hard mode" that punishes players for wrong answers while explaining the mystery. The mechanics of exploring for clues, talking to suspects, and switching between the 2 protagonists are still intact. The first Murder Is Game Over Game got more than 90% positive reviews (currently 17 out of 18). I'm hoping players will enjoy what I came up with for the second time around!

It may not look like much, but this is a cellar hole from a 17th-century ghost town.
