v0.B.1 - Database Editor & God Mode

MOBA Manager Playtest · published

One week of playtest in the books.

The MOBA Manager Playtest opened on July 1st. Seven days later, here's where we stand — and here's what's new in v0.B.1.

To everyone who requested access, installed the build and tried out the game — thank you.

The signal from your feedback has been clear:

  • Steam-build performance is solid on most hardware
  • I've received the feedback that some decisions don't feel impactful enough / you're sometimes not in control enough of the results. We're monitoring this, future features like manual draft mode & soloQ training to control your player's development are definitely on the books.
  • People have expressed their desire to auto-sim or skip certain parts of the season.
  • The main question and our first priority: "can we play with real players and teams?"

That last one is what today's update is about.

v0.B.1 — Database Editor + God Mode

A way to auto-sim results once you're eliminated — whether you're eliminated from playoffs and failed to qualify for Worlds, or simply lost in the quarterfinals of MSI, a "skip" button will now appear right next to Continue. This automatically simulates all remaining results of that split, and stops at the end, letting you pick right back up at the start of the next split or season.

Two new power tools, both live under Manage → Tools in the sidebar.

Database Editor — a full read/write editor for every team, every player, and the whole free-agent pool. Every value in the save is editable in place: team names, colors, logos, market pop, cash, hype, roster composition, per-player OVR / POT / age / MMR / contract, and player pictures. Team logos and player pictures accept any image file, converted to a data URL and stored inline in the save so they round-trip through Save Export cleanly. You can now build your database with real teams and players, and share it.

God Mode — a sandbox switch that unlocks two new categories of edits across the game:

  • Inline pencil-icon field editors on the Player detail page and Team Finances (edit ratings, contracts, cash, hype without leaving the page)
  • Two new customization knobs on the God Mode tile itself:

Residency Rules — currently every domestic league requires 3-of-5 starters from the home region (EU / NA / KR / CN etc.). With God Mode on, dial this to anything from 1 to 5. Want to run an all-import LEC roster? Set it to 1. Want to force fully home-grown lineups league-wide? Set it to 5.

New Prospects — regional multiplier sliders for the preseason rookie generation. Each region has a slider from 0.0× to 3.0×. Default 1.0× everywhere. Push EU to 2.0× and half your rookie waves come from Europe. Zero out NA and no American prospects will spawn again.

The philosophy

The goal is to hand you the tools to bring your favourite teams and players into MOBA Manager, and to reshape the world into whatever alternate reality you want to simulate. Recreate real iconic MOBA lineups from years past. Run a Korea-only universe where every league has to source from a KR-only prospect pool. It's your save — the tools should help you build it.

Every edit routes through the same Save Export tool you already have, so any custom database you build is one file you can hand off to a friend, back up to Dropbox, or share on the community hub.

Steam Workshop for custom databases

Building a database is one thing; sharing it is what turns it into a scene. Workshop support for exported databases is the absolutely something that we feel like makes this process a lot easier — a one-click "Publish to Workshop" from the Save Export tool, and a one-click "Subscribe + Import" from any Workshop item.

No exact ETA yet — Workshop integration is something that we'll likely only focus on once the game feels complete. For now, you can share your files through alternative means.

How to get in / stay in

If you already have Playtest access: MOBA Manager Playtest is in your Steam Library. Steam auto-updates it, so v0.B.1 should be live for you within a few minutes of this post.

Thanks again, and see you at the top of the ladder.
