Performance Update: Smoother Frames, Fixed Buttons & Bug Fixes

Performance

Some players told us that music and videos playing alongside the game stuttered. That turned out to be the game using far more of your graphics card than it needed to. This update fixes that.

  • Adaptive render quality: The game now watches how hard your GPU is working and adjusts its internal resolution on its own. Powerful PCs still get the sharp image. Weaker PCs and laptops stay smooth and run cooler.
  • Lighter shadow & outline effects: We reworked the contact shadows, outlines and other effects to skip work they don't need. The graphics card now spends about a third less time on each frame, and the game looks exactly the same.
  • Faster upgrade screen: The skill tree is now prepared while the game loads, so the first time you open the upgrade screen it appears almost instantly.
  • Fewer hitches while mining: Items flying to your inventory, pooled effects and sounds are now prepared ahead of time, so there are fewer small stutters when lots of blocks break at once.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where the Continue button on the upgrade screen couldn't be clicked after certain runs, which left you stuck on that screen.
  • Buttons no longer respond while screens are animating in or out, so clicking fast can't leave the menus in a bad state anymore.
  • With a large mining area, some blocks you could see were skipped. Now every visible block inside the cursor is hit.
  • Fixed the world sometimes being generated twice when a new run started.

Your Feedback Matters
