v. 0.3.0 - Major development update

major update

Snowplow Therapy · published · build 25420860

Hello everyone!

Over the last several weeks, we have been focusing on one of the most important components of the game: the physics, visuals, and behavior of the snow surface during snowplowing.

With the release of v0.3.0, we believe our game has taken a major step forward.

Just watch what happens to the snow pile after the truck moves ahead:

Previously, the snow was generated as separate terrain chunks. It could be cleared and piled up, but every disturbed section had to rebuild its geometry, while newly deposited snow mostly remained exactly where it was placed.

Snow can now accumulate into banks, settle naturally, and slide towards lower areas instead of instantly freezing into a static shape.

We have also connected the visual particle effects directly to the snow simulation. The plow now throws a mixture of fluffy powder clouds and individual snow grains, while snow being thrown by the snowblower can land on the ground and become part of the terrain again.

As you play, you can see:

  • the snow clouds adding fresh cover to the surface;

  • snow collecting and building up in front of the blade;

  • loose piles briefly slumping and settling after being displaced;

  • snow thrown into the air landing and becoming part of the terrain again.

The snow surface itself has also been completely reworked. It now features layered grain, clumping, wind-shaped detail, and subtle sparkling highlights, helping it read much more like a mass of loose snow particles rather than a flat white material.

Please note that some older saves may not properly load after this update, as the snow grid system has changed very substantially. They may still be playable, but some parts of snow surface may not be shown correctly. You can also do full game reset from the stats menu after this update has been installed.

We hope you enjoy the new version as much as we enjoyed working on it.

Happy snow plowing!
