Beta Update #2
tl;dr new backgrounds in The Cortex, improvements and fixes
Summary:
I've added some new backgrounds, effects, and other small details to The Cortex, with of course more coming soon. The goal is to make The Cortex feel like a vast, empty, lifeless void (other than the machines). The projectile and impact system needed some work so I can expand the effects of projectiles, etc, as the game grows. Last but certainly not least, I've addressed some feedback given via Discord, like falling into traps being a bit jarring. Hopefully that's more smooth now (let me know!)
Changes:
- Added some new backgrounds and background animations to The Cortex
- Improved falling into traps with a new visual effect
- Improved projectile collision detection (although I just realized it might not be improved for the Heavy Gunner, I'll fix that in Monday's hotfix)
- Added new projectile effects - now all projectiles and materials have their own impact effect
- Added other new particle and material effects for status effects and healing
- Fixed HUD disappearing after some cutscenes, and not coming back
- Fixed the issue with the button not opening the rusty door in The Wires (let me know if you still have this issue, but I'm 90% sure it's fixed)
Known Issues:
- Some sound effects aren't playing properly
- Shield Trooper's missiles sometimes will explode on the player and deal zero damage. Enjoy it while it lasts
- Scorch Spiders still sometimes spawn incorrectly.
- Rigsmith turret sometimes can't be placed for the remainder of the run (she's getting some attention soon)
- Rigsmith turret doesn't attack the Shield Trooper's shield
- Teleporter icons disappear after using the teleporter
What's Next:
- More Rigsmith improvements
- New and improved tutorial
- Improvements to the Cortex and additional areas to explore
- Improve gamepad support (it's a bit janky amirite?)
- Reworking Laser Rifle secondary fire, it doesn't feel juicy right now
Thanks, and enjoy! I look forward to everyone's feedback!
