LonelyHere: Update 2 - Food and Fire

Lonely Here Playtest · published · build 22316638

Hi, I promised that updates would come out frequently... but this one is different! Here's what's new:

COOKING!!!To cook, you’ll need a new item—a Pot. It was provided by our valued sponsor, “Me,” so you can cook various dishes and more...To start cooking, you need to:

  1. Fill the pot with water
  2. Place ingredients inside (up to 4 items)
  3. Place the pot on the stove (this isn’t from the sponsor; I brought it from home)
  4. Go to the fireplace next to the stove, fill it with wood, and light it so it can heat the stove
  5. If you did everything right, the pot will start boiling—good job!
  6. Wait until it stops boiling and use your empty plate on the pot
  7. If you picked the right ingredients, you’ll get your dish, but I always ended up with junk—sadly

This update includes a few more interesting things; all the changes are described below...Added:

  • Furniture for the “Kitchen” room
  • Door opening mechanics
  • A huge stove in the kitchen
  • The ability to burn sticks in the stove
  • Fire burning and spreading mechanics
  • Flint and steel
  • A pot and a pot lid
  • Plates
  • Dishes: (Trash dish, Apple on a Stick)

Changes:

  • A tree's full growth cycle now takes 20 minutes of real time
  • A bucket of sticks has been added to the “Kitchen”
  • The size of apples has been reduced
  • Grass density has been reduced to improve performance (a separate grass density setting will be added in the future)
  • Stone is now slightly less heavy
  • The save file standard is now 3
  • A system for rendering objects at a distance has been implemented (this should improve performance)

Fixes:

  • Sticks can no longer sprout in empty buckets
  • Objects in the Hotbar are now centered in their slots
  • Objects will no longer float in the air if the object beneath them is removed
  • Save slots now correctly select the folder slot number when created
  • Fixed a regression in loading arguments into an object
  • Fixed premature loading of an object in the world

Note: Due to external issues, this update didn’t turn out quite as well as hoped. Update 2.5 is already in development and will bring the missing content!
