Three new places to open a restaurant
Until now every restaurant in Mega Fast Food stood on the same corner lot. With 3.0 you choose where to build, and each place plays differently.
- Crowven is a roadside stop among golden fields. The plot is twice as big and cars pour into the drive-thru, but few people walk out this far and the locals count every coin.
- Midas is downtown, on a paved plaza between office towers. Office workers crowd in all day and pay 20% more, but they're in a hurry and the rent is $300 a day.
- The Rooftop is a terrace on top of a skyscraper, with the city far below. Diners ride the lift up and pay the most of anywhere, but there's no road for a drive-thru and the rent is the city's highest.
Your existing restaurants stay on the Sidewalk and play exactly as before. Each new location has its own starting money, its own five star goals and its own kind of customers.
Also new
- Marketing: flyers, a radio spot, a billboard, a social media buzz or a TV advert bring in more customers for a few days.
- The food critic drops in every few days, marked with a gold star. Win them over and the whole town hears about it.
- The health inspector checks your tables, floors and dishes. A spotless restaurant earns an award; a messy one pays a fine.
- A 3× speed for when your restaurant runs itself.
We also fixed the bugs players were most likely to hit: customers no longer complain about long waits while the cashier packs their tray, a fired cashier's queue no longer freezes, and friends at a table keep their food when the first of them leaves.
Below is everything that changed.
New
- Three new locations. When you open a new restaurant you now pick where it stands. Each place has its own starting money, its own five star goals and its own kind of customers, and plays differently:
- Crowven, a roadside stop among the farms: twice the space to build, golden fields and a tractor next door, more than twice as many drive-thru cars, but fewer people on foot and locals who watch their money.
- Midas, downtown on a paved plaza between office towers: busy all day with office workers in a hurry who pay 20% more, but the rent is $300 a day.
- The Rooftop, a terrace on top of a skyscraper with the city far below: diners ride the lift up and pay 50% more than anywhere else, but they're fewer, there's no road for a drive-thru and the rent is $500 a day.
- The Sidewalk, where every restaurant so far stands, is still there and plays exactly as before. Your existing restaurants stay where they are, and the Load game list shows where each one is.
Marketing. Money > Marketing lets you advertise: flyers, a radio spot, a roadside billboard, a social media buzz or a TV advert bring more customers (and drive-thru cars) for a few days. Campaigns add up, bigger ones unlock as your restaurant serves more people, and the bottom-left card shows when one is running. The food critic. Every few days a food critic drops in, marked with a gold star over their head. Serve them quickly, at a fair price, at a clean table: a rave review lifts your reputation and brings extra customers for a few days, a harsh one costs you.The health inspector. Now and then an inspector checks your restaurant: dirty tables, litter, piles of dirty dishes, and whether there's a sink, a staff toilet and a bin. Grade A earns a $300 award; D and F mean a fine. Money > Marketing shows how your last review and inspection went.A faster speed. A new 3× speed button (or press 3) for when your restaurant runs itself.Improved
- Customers judge their wait by how long they queued before ordering, not by how long the cashier then took to fetch and pack their food. Since 2.2, most people in even a short queue complained they had waited too long.
- When nobody is at a counter (say you fired its cashier), the whole queue now gives up together after a minute instead of each group waiting its own minute at the front, and people arriving meanwhile say "Nobody was at the counter" instead of "The queue was too long".
- Speed keys (Space, 1, 2, 3) no longer change the speed while you're typing a name or searching for food.
Fixed
- Fries no longer stay on the menu after you remove your last fries station. Every fries order used to keep a cashier waiting at a station that wasn't there, then the customers left unhappy.
- When the first of a group heads home, friends still eating at the table keep their meal instead of having it swapped for a takeaway bag mid-bite.
- Customers no longer sit with their backs to tables that were placed or turned to face left.
- Bulldozing a table no longer leaves its trays floating in the air, and a counter can no longer stay "in use" forever because of a tray left for a server.
- A customer whose cashier moved on to someone else can no longer cancel that other person's meal by leaving.
- Customers who can't reach a counter any more (because something was built in the way) now leave unhappy, instead of leaving perfectly happy and raising your reputation.
- Idle staff no longer wander off to where floors used to be before you bulldozed them.
- A grill or deep fryer no longer keeps showing food cooking after its cook was fired or called away mid-batch.
- Customers who were eating when you saved sit back down after loading instead of sometimes taking their meal and leaving.
Tell us how your restaurant is doing
If you run into a problem, please post in the Steam discussions. Tell us which location you are playing, Career or Sandbox, what you were doing and what happened. A screenshot or the affected save helps us investigate.
Thank you for playing and for helping us improve Mega Fast Food.
