RW - V 0.37 Fix Update

Random Wars · published

Development is ramping up! Here is everything that changed in Random Wars since October 1.

Bots

  • New combat AI: bots take a moment to react, fire in bursts, use cover, reload behind it and search where they last saw you.
  • Their accuracy depends on distance, on your movement and on cover. They never shoot through walls or through their teammates.
  • They warn nearby teammates when they spot an enemy.
  • Bots can be downed and revived like players, VIP bots included. A downed bot dies if hit again or after 30 seconds.
  • Bots revive you: when you are down, call for a medic and the closest free bot of your team (within 60 m) comes to heal you.
  • A downed bot drops its weapon on the ground and gets it back in hand once revived.
  • Bots roam the whole map instead of always heading to the same spot, and they open doors.
  • Bots no longer fire into empty space, and no longer freeze after hearing a shot.
  • Everyone now sees the bots' muzzle flashes and recoil.

VIP mode

  • Extraction vote: on maps with two extraction zones, the VIP team votes for zone A or B during the warm-up (F1 / F2). The majority wins, a tie is drawn at random.
  • The chosen zone blinks for 10 seconds and your mission is shown. The other zone is hidden and no longer counts for extraction.
  • Defenders are not told which zone was chosen: they still see both.
  • Zones are now labelled A and B on the 3D markers and on the compass.
  • Defender bots split between the two zones and take new positions around them every round.

Gameplay

  • Medic: you now have to aim at the downed teammate, within about 2 m, and your view stays locked while you hold the key.
  • Downed players can now wait up to 30 seconds for a medic (20 before).
  • Grenades: once the pin is pulled, the grenade goes off even if the throw is cut short. If you are downed or killed, it drops at your feet. You can no longer switch weapons during a throw.
  • The knife now shakes the camera when you strike.
  • Points, XP and wins only count with at least 4 real players in the teams. Below that, leaving a match has no penalty.
  • Guests: at the end of a match, a screen invites you to create a free account to unlock weapons and ranks, then takes you back to the title screen.

Map editor

  • Resize any object with + and - while placing or moving it (x0.25 to x4). The keys are listed with the other controls, and sizes are saved with the map.
  • Weathered look: new options in the Objects tab add vines on walls (with a density slider), graffiti tags on walls and dirt on the ground (each with an amount slider). Vines only grow on the outside of buildings, dirt only lands on flat ground, and none of it blocks players or bullets in game.
  • Decoration objects are sorted by theme in the circular menu (Bathroom, Bedroom, Kitchen, Lounge, Exterior, Props...).
  • 8 new objects: dumpster, van, forklift, pillar, 2 barriers, cable and dirt.
  • The Undo/Redo and tab buttons of the editor panel are no longer oversized.

Interface and settings

  • New hover effect on the menu buttons across the whole game.
  • The map build effect at round start now shows black blocks with thin red edges.
  • Objective banners, "STARTING MATCH", the extraction vote and chat messages use the team colors.
  • "YOU ARE DEAD" now fades out after 5 seconds.
  • The loading screen uses a single font for all its texts.
  • Voice Volume now really sets the other players' voices: middle is normal, left is quieter, right is louder. It has been reset to the middle.

Fixes

  • Faster loading: the map was loaded twice at the start of every match.
  • Max FPS, VSync, volumes and mouse sensitivity were sometimes not applied.
  • The weapon draw animation no longer stops halfway at low frame rates.
  • A grenade throw interrupted by being downed no longer blocks your grenades after the revive.
  • More stable dedicated servers.
