I initially wanted to get the game out before the end of the year but looking at all the work left to be done I don't feel confident hitting that mark.
As a "solo dev" who uses purchased and commissioned assets for his art, this sometimes means I'm on timelines I can't control, which I can also admit is part of my own doing.
Learning how to request art, the specifications and details involved has been more then I expected honestly and it's caused more delays then I was hoping for.
Make no mistake, that's on me, not my artist.
He's done amazing work for me but I'd be lying if I haven't made him re-do some things several times over because I struggle to put into words what I want and change my mind once I see them.
This added with the slight language barrier between us means things have taken longer then I'd hoped. It's a lesson I'm making myself study and learn so in the future I can avoid these types of issues,
My hope is to have the game out in the first half of 2027.
I'm gonna really push to make get everything done ASAP but I want to give myself enough room that I don't have to make another post like this and kick the can down the road once more.
Although the scope and size of BloodSpiller isn't anything crazy or innovative, I do want to make sure I put my best effort into it and release something that I'm truly proud of for you all to enjoy.
I also wanted to use this as a means to show off some of the things I've been cooking up for the game.
There's now 5 direction shooting.
It was the most requested feature by far and I wanted to give that give that real Contra vibe.
I've also been reworking the post-level Update System.
Now players will have a choice of 2 upgrades from a pool of 10.
I may add more to them later but for now 10 is a solid path that lets the player become hilariously strong and give each play through a little different feel.
I'll keep updating you all with more info as I have it and again, I appreciate your patience and support while I work on the game.
