2.0 "Dicebound Destiny" update

major update

Dice of Kalma · published · build 26250914

Hello, Wayward Souls! The 2.0 "Dicebound Destiny" update is here!

This update is the single largest gameplay addition to the game since release, so we felt that calling it a 2.0 update was in order. The main course of the update is a completely new gameplay system that transforms how players can apporach rerolling the dice. We call this system "reroll abilities" - these are unlockable starting skills that change how the reroll button affects the selected dice. In addition to the reroll abilities, there are also two new skulls, overhauls to a few skulls, a ton of small QoL and visual improvements, and a lot of new achievements and cosmetic items.

PATCH NOTES:

REROLL ABILITIES:

- Reroll abilities are selected at the start of a new run after choosing the game mode.

- There are eleven reroll abilities in total: Classic, Chaotic, Twin, Weighed, Cogwheel, Foretold, Clairvoyant, Sorting, Twisted, Stone and Shackled.

- Generally speaking, each reroll ability gives you something. But in return, you lose something else, encouraging you to build your strategy based on the reroll ability you have selected.

- Reroll abilities can be unlocked through a new meta progression system where reaching a particular level with an ability unlocks the next ability.

- Skulls that are guaranteed to be incompatible with the selected reroll ability throughout the entire game are placed on a blacklist and are offered only after the player has exhausted the list of other skulls to pick.

- 12 reroll-ability related achievements and cosmetic rewards for each achievement.

NEW SKULLS:

- Samurai skull: +15 bones / +3 mult / +2 rerolls when playing a hand that contains at least three dice with the number 5.

- Mauled skull: +10 bones / +2 mult / +1 reroll when playing a hand if exactly one or two dice were rerolled at least once.

SKULL REWORKS:

- Candle skull now activates when playing a hand if there are fewer than two rerolls left.

- Gamer skull now activates when playing a hand if the sum of the first and last die is divisible by 4.

- Choked skull now activates when playing a Three of a Kind or a Full House.

- Drinking skull now activates when playing a hand if the amount of rerolls is divisible by the amount of hands and larger than zero.

MISCALLANEOUS CHANGES:

- Time-limited events. Each of these events has its own special outfit that is earned for playing the game during the event. Events return every year, so there is no need to worry about permanently missing out on anything. The first event will launch soon to celebrate the one year anniversary of the game, stay tuned!

- Dialogues hinting towards better utilization of skulls now appear only when losing after a second chance has been used in a run.

- Leaderboard button is now available in the end screen for daily mode.

- The skull example buttons now start repeatedly flashing if the player spends a bit of time in the skull selection screen.

- Added some additional second chance dialogue variations for levels 6-10.

- Added localizations for the second chance system in all languages.

- Added button icon alerts for newly unlocked reroll abilities and game modes in the main menu.

- Changed the “new wardrobe items” icon.

- The inventory view mode (skull list vs grid) is now saved locally and remembered between gameplay sessions.

- The grid inventory view now shows all skull details when a skull is hovered over, not just the skull name.

- The play hand and reroll buttons now display decorative icons in their “skull boxes”, and the icon on the reroll button changes based on the chosen reroll ability.

- Shortened the button press time required to display the score preview by 100 milliseconds.

- Slightly increased the gaps between text fields and UI elements in skull and hand description cards.

- If the dice roll animation is skipped, the dice stopping sounds no longer stack.

- Increased the speed of looping button icon animations.

- Added a new sound effect for skull activations.

- Changed how reroll gain from skulls is animated.

- Slightly adjusted the sprites of some skulls.

- Improved the sprites for emerald and ruby supporter pack crowns and capes.

- Hands and rerolls are now displayed with their original values for the duration of the score calculation with another number signifying how many are lost or gained.

- Adjusted how previewing a hand score displays reroll gain and loss of hands.

- The skull reroll usage hint can now be closed by clicking anywhere on the screen.

- Added a black outline to the dice flame animation.

- Added a blinking effect to the star icon that signifies that the player already has a skull in their deck and added a “shiny” animation for the skull icon boxes of already owned skulls in the loot view. Blank skulls are exempt.

- It is now possible to interrupt the skull activation animations of reroll-activated skulls by holding down the Play Hand button, which also activates the score preview after skipping the skull activation animations.

- Removed language support for Dutch.

BUGFIXES:

- Fixed an issue where skull activations could highlight the wrong dice if the player had a Pirate Skull and there were more than one die with the number 1.

- Fixed a visual issue with skull cards when a blank skull was selected in the skull selection screen.

- Fixed an issue where sometimes dice reroll sounds would not play properly.

- Fixed a bug where starting a daily challenge after playing exactly one run in classic mode would result in incorrect dialogues from Kalma.

- Fixed an issue where the skull eyes on the shelf in the background didn’t light up correctly when loading a save or restarting a level.
