Crime Scene

Playtest 0.1.29 → 0.1.47

The biggest content wave of the playtest so far: more entities, a new location, a real crime-scene base, and stories to piece together on every map.

New locations

  • Saint-Roch Chapel and its crypt: an abandoned country chapel and its graveyard, with a vaulted nave, a confessional, a bell tower whose bell tolls on its own... and, below the choir, a pitch-dark crypt with an ossuary and tombs.
  • Ashford House: a fully rebuilt exterior, and a door under the garage stairs now leads to a cellar where someone practised witchcraft.
  • A real crime scene: you now arrive outside, in a police-sealed area with a tent, equipment tables and work lights. The surroundings come alive: streets, gardens, car parks, neighbouring houses, forest.
  • Front doors: they slam shut and lock at the start of every hunt. Outside, you're safe... but you can't help the others. The entity never leaves the building.

30 entities and a 10th evidence type

  • 16 new entities, each with its own evidence and quirk: Banshee, Bogeyman, Wendigo, Puppeteer, White Lady, Lamia, Flayer, Echo, Djinn, The Drowned, Ghoul, Mara, Strigoi, Dybbuk, Yurei and The Hanged Man.
  • New evidence: Footprints in salt. Some entities leave footprints in it, others don't.
  • The entity mimics your voices during hunts. Clips stay in memory on your PC for the contract only, are never saved or sent, and the option can be turned off in Settings › Audio.
  • New death: the entity grabs you and forces your gaze... and your teammates see you lifted up, then collapsing.
  • A haunted gramophone, scenery thrown around by the Poltergeist, and sanity draining twice as fast in the dark.

New survival tools

  • Salt: spread it on the floor (3 uses) to reveal footprints.
  • Sage: burn it and the entity can't attack you during the hunt. Single use, so pick your moment.
  • Blessed chalk: draw a protective circle the entity can't cross during a hunt, although each assault erases part of the line.
  • T key: toggles the flashlight in your bag, even while holding another item.

Investigating as a team

  • GHOST OS tablet: the journal becomes a rugged field tablet with its own apps (Evidence, Entities, Objectives, Photos, Map, Gear, Case file...).
  • Floor plan, floor by floor, with visited rooms shown in colour. Live base boards: photos, current contract, sanity. A console of 3 camera screens.
  • Story contracts: 12 cases and 61 documents to find (diaries, letters, newspaper clippings...). A complete file reveals the truth in the summary.
  • Team roles: Team leader, Technician, Photographer or Medium.
  • Insurance: 20% of your gear's value, and everything is returned if you die.
  • Ping with middle click: Here, Evidence, Danger, Come.
  • Spectator: dead players fly freely and can, once per match, possess a living player to mess with their movement.

Progression and rewards

  • Steam leaderboards for best times, per map and difficulty.
  • 25 rare collectibles and a Trophies screen with XP and money rewards.
  • End-of-match money doubled. Prestige becomes optional from level 100 and never makes you lose your cosmetics.
  • Cosmetics galore: 33 new outfits, 24 calling cards including 15 animated ones, free colours for top, bottoms and shoes, patches, a custom flashlight and animated prestige outfits.

Social

  • A mic icon above the teammate who is talking, and per-player volume.
  • Shareable match summary: an image of your contract, ready to paste on Discord.
  • Spoiler-free Discord status, a news panel, and Discord and Steam buttons in the menu.

Performance

  • Optimised shadows for distant lamps: up to 30 to 40% more frames per second from the base.
  • No more stutters when entering a room, and shaders preloaded during loading.
  • DirectX 12 available for testing with the -force-d3d12 launch option.

Fixes and improvements

  • You can sit on sofas, armchairs and benches (it doesn't hide you from the entity).
  • Choose how many of each item you bring; extra tables appear if needed.
  • Animated shop tooltips, Settings available from the lobby, VHS-style menu transitions.
  • Door handles, the asylum and graveyard gates, tent lighting and flickering textures: fixed.
