The Field & Fire - Update 0.1.5

On Steam

Hi all!Today I bring you the first major update for 'A Place Out Here' The Field & Fire Update! This update is the first in many overhauls of the overall game and hope this shows my visions for future updates and what to expect.Note: Most of the recipes or ways to acquire items are currently placeholders, and might change further into development as items are balanced or added, or if you have suggestions for recipes please let me know with the feedback button in-game. In Her Memory

We had to say goodbye to my brother’s dog today, and I wanted to do something small for her.

I added a little memorial somewhere on the map. She meant a lot to our family, and it felt right to give her a place in something I’ve spent so much time making.

If you come across it during your travels, take a moment to rest with her.

This update is dedicated to her. #FuckCancer

Added

  • Seed Processing Bench: Turn harvested crops into seeds to expand your garden and prepare for the next planting.

  • Campfire Cooking Rework: Replaced the recipe list with a new interface where you combine ingredients to discover meals. Campfires handle basic foods and small soups, while heartier meals remain at the cooking station. Further cooking improvements are planned. If there is a combination you would like to see let me know and I will get that added. (I might have missed some things)

  • Chickens: Chickens now spawn throughout the world alongside deer and wolves. Hunt them to gather feathers, eggs, and chicken legs for cooking and crafting.

  • Chicken Coop. Capture wild chickens and add up to four to a coop. Chickens roam nearby during the day, return at night and come back out in the morning. Keep the coop supplied with feed and water for a chance to produce eggs and feathers. Chickens don’t produce at night or whenever feed or water runs out. More chickens increase the speed but also increase supply consumption.

  • Fish Traps: Place traps in water for a chance to catch fish over time. Return to collect your catch, full traps won’t catch more fish until space is available.

  • 12 Fish Varieties: Discover a dozen different fish varieties through trapping.

  • Stone Knife: Added the Stone Knife, this is required for certain tasks now! Seen more below ;)

  • Animal Harvesting & Fish Gutting: Deer, Wolves and Chickens now require a knife to harvest instead of dropping loot when killed. Hold E with a knife equipped to butcher a carcass or gut a dropped fish.

  • Item Placement: Make your cabin feel more like home. You can now right-click any dropped item, to move them and place wherever you please. Clutter that cabin! Dropped items will still despawn after some time but not if you manually move an item. Items remain available to pick up and use whenever you need them. These items do not have collisions to help make placement a little more free, and to help with performance costs. So if an item is furniture make sure its placed correctly not drag and drop placed.

  • Ambient Music: This now plays randomly and occasionally as you explore the wilderness. Of course if you are a content creator turning off the music slider is the way to go, but those that want to play the game you can! These tracks will most likely be replaced in the future but the system is here.

  • Clothing: Shirts, Jackets, Pants, Shoes with different warmth, windproof, protection and sprint penalties. Jackets can be worn over shirts using the new jacket slot. Basic Clothing can be crafted on the player, while other clothing can be scavenged around the map.

  • Backpacks: Eight backpacks and have been introduced, with different storage capacities. Larger packs offer more carrying space at the cost of sprint endurance.

  • Sewing Table: Used for making thread and different tiers of backpacks.

  • Equipment Stats: Stats panel that updates when equipment is changed. These also appear on the item tool tip for each piece of clothing.    Warmth: Helps resist cold temperatures
       Windproof: Reduces wind chill
Protection: Reduces damage from animal attacks
Sprint Capacity: Shows how equipment affects sprint duration, the lower the percentage the fast stamina gets consumed when sprinting. If sprint capacity is at 0% you can no longer sprint.

Fixed

  • Arrows no longer get blocked by water.

  • Fixed the hunting rifle appearing blurry while held.

  • Notifications no longer block mouse input while on screen.

  • Fixed the gameplay HUD remaining visible over the pause menu.

  • Updated wind chill to use current weather conditions. (this was bugged previously)

Adjusted

  • Survival stats now remain visible while the inventory is open, making it easier to see the effects of food and drinks.

  • Refined the survival HUD with cleaner visuals and vertical fills inside the diamond-shaped stat bars.

  • Increased cold buildup from low temperatures by 50%. This sounds like a lot, but it adapts to clothing changes.

  • Blizzards now slowly drain warmth outdoors, even with the warmest clothing equipped. Clothing still helps protect against cold, but shelter and heat sources remain important during severe weather.

  • Reworks some textures on some items.

  • Wolf's now drop Wolf Pelts, which can also be used to make dry leather at the drying rack.

Thanks for playing and sharing your feedback. There’s more to come as A Place Out Here continues to grow.Best, Fitzy
