Patch 1.1.2: fairer bosses, chat that picks your upgrades, and a pile of fixes

On Steam

Hi everyone,

1.1.2 is out. Most of it comes straight from streaming the game every evening and reading your reports: bosses that could one-shot you from places you couldn't see, achievements that never unlocked, numbers that didn't count what they said. Here's what changed.

New

  • Chat picks for you (Streamer Mode): when the level-up cards or a Kernel Reaper pact show up, chat votes with !1, !2 or !3. If you haven't chosen after 15 seconds, the chat's pick is taken. Votes in the first 3 seconds don't count, so stream delay never carries a vote into the next choice, and picking yourself cancels the vote.
  • DIVINE SEAL card: a rare level-up card (0.3%, 10% after a natural 20 on the D20) that grants one of the DIVINE GAUNTLET's seals with no Kernel Debt. At most once per run.
  • TEXT SIZE option (Normal, Large, Extra large), and bigger text across the game.
  • These patch notes now also appear once in game after each update.

Changed

  • A boss hit can take at most 40% of your max HP, and bosses deal no damage for the first 3 seconds after they appear.
  • Kernel Debt: the five minor debts no longer wear off. They last the whole run, at lower values (enemy speed +12%, move speed -10%, XP -15%, enemy spawns +20%, fire rate -10%). Once you carry all five, priced cards ask for a major debt.
  • D20: advanced hands from 7+, cursed from 15+, and a roll of 15 to 20 never shows a debt card. You now get one D20 re-roll token per System Reboot, as the reboot screen promised.
  • Cursed cards no longer appear before level 15.
  • OVERCLOCK class: +50% fire rate and -25% damage dealt (it used to make you take more damage).
  • GLASS_CANNON, OVERCLOCK_UNSAFE and OVERCLOCK_CORE lost their own drawback; their price is the Kernel Debt.
  • Shotgun pellets no longer leave burn_sectors.sh burning pools (it still evolves the shotgun).
  • HARDCORE is under development and locked until 1.1.3.
  • Each ending now plays once; beating THE EYE again lets the run go on. Beating THE EYE records level 100 as your best level.
  • BOSS RUSH stays unlocked after a System Reboot, and its runs no longer count toward your best level or the local top 10.

Nerfed

  • BRIMSTONE.SH, LODESTONE, SUPERNOVA_CORE and OMEGA_PROTOCOL now also cost 25% of your max HP.

Improved

  • Holding to confirm (EXECUTE on a System Reboot, signing a Kernel Debt, BANISH) reacts from the very first instant.
  • The three level-up cards are always the same height, and unlock conditions in the upgrades screens are readable.
  • The upgrades screen no longer flashes on every press.
  • DARK_MATTER pulls enemies smoothly instead of in jerks.
  • The DIVINE GAUNTLET shows what each seal actually does, in every language.
  • Less lag with flamethrower builds.
  • Scrollbars are gone from every menu (the wheel and the controller still scroll).

Fixed

  • Boss achievements now unlock. They never did before, sorry. If your save shows you already beat THE EYE or a secret boss, you get those at launch; the others unlock on your next kill.
  • MEMORY_LEAK could hurt you from outside its body (an invisible ring about 100 px wide). It can't anymore.
  • gravity.sh no longer drags bosses into you.
  • Your gun no longer stops firing at a big boss standing right next to you.
  • The death replay no longer blames an enemy that didn't kill you.
  • Bosses now count for the "Defeat N Bosses" challenges, and every weapon's shots count for SHOTS FIRED and "Fire N shots".
  • The bestiary counts boss and GOLDEN_GLITCH kills.
  • You can unequip a secondary weapon (press it again in the loadout).
  • The bits counter updates right after bounty rewards.
  • With a controller, REPORT BUG no longer opens from inside a menu.
  • Cinematic dialogue boxes are no longer cut by the black bars.

Thanks for playing, for the reports and for hanging out on the streams. Next come 1.1.3 and 1.1.4, mostly performance work under the hood. Then, later this month, a bigger update: a full visual overhaul of every menu and a real leaderboard page that counts normal runs too.
