First of all, thank you to everyone who bought and played À Deriva in these first weeks. Seeing the little boat drifting down the river on so many screens makes me really excited to keep going.
Every map redesigned
Along the way I learned a new technique for the scenery. Instead of a landscape that loops, each map is now built from pieces, stretch by stretch, as the boat drifts along. The river is never the same. I used it to rebuild the five maps that were already there: the Araguaia, the Rio Negro, Furnas, the Santa Catarina Coast and Fernando de Noronha.
Three new places, closing the Brazil season
- Lagoa dos Patos (RS). Brazil's largest lagoon, between the pampa and the sea. The pet is Maroca the Seal, inspired by the seal that became a symbol of the town of Camaquã.
- Pantanal (MT/MS). The largest floodplain in the world, with jabiru storks, hyacinth macaws and the Minhocão hiding in the deep. The pet is the coati.
- São Francisco River (BA/PE). The Velho Chico crossing the sertão, with carved figureheads on the bows and the Caboclo d'Água's curimatã. The pet is the Spix's macaw.
Each one has 12 fish, its own bait, a celestial and 5 new achievements. With them, the Brazil season is complete.
So where should the boat go next? Tell me in the comments which country you'd like to see on the map.
Ranking: points and rotation
- Map of the day. The maps take turns: every day one of them is worth double points, and its celestial is worth as much as the strongest map's. When the map changes, a small window lets you know, and it also shows in the Ranking and on the Map.
- Points rebalanced. Celestial points still go up from map to map, but the last map is no longer worth ten times the first. If you're still on the early maps, you can fight for the podium too.
October closes under the old rules. November, the first edition with a prize, starts from zero under the new ones. The full table is on the ranking page.
Fixes and general improvements
- A clock on the strip shows how long until day or night.
- At night the sky is clear and starry. Clouds come with the rain.
- The Friendly Seagull and the Pirate Parrot call out when the stork arrives, and keep calling until it leaves.
- Security improvements in the game and the ranking.
- The game now opens together with Steam.
