Melon Man 2.0 is finally out: rebuilt, redrawn and twice the content!

On Steam

Melon Man 2.0 is out now!

Not long ago we said the biggest update since launch was nearly here. It's finally here!
Your unlocked levels and best times from the old version come along the first time you start it.

Six new levels

Melon Man now has twelve levels instead of six:

  • Level 7: a savanna canyon under the desert sun
  • Level 8: a garden at night, lit only by torches
  • Level 9: up and over the snowy mountains
  • Level 10: a frozen night with wind, icicles, and rolling snowballs
  • Level 11: the forest at dusk, and something that chases you
  • Level 12: the deep dungeon, with fire, crushers, and a lot of darkness

Fair warning, they are a lot harder than the first six.

New traps

In the sneak peek we mentioned crumbling platforms, bounce pads and spikes on a timer. Those are in, and so are thorn beds, falling icicles, rolling snowballs, wind, swinging blades, a saw that chases you, fire jets, crushers, and a gate that stays shut until you have every melon. And there's more to come.

New: Rookie difficulty

If Melon Man has been too hard for you, there is now Rookie mode. You get 5 lives and checkpoints, so when you die you go back to the last checkpoint instead of the start of the level. A good way to get familiar with the mechanics.

Normal, Hard and Insane are still there, and Insane still sends you back to Level 1 when you die. Rookie doesn't count for the Normal, Hard and Insane achievements.

28 Steam achievements

Steam achievements have now been added to the game, and more mastery ones will be added for major future patches, if they greatly expand the level selection.

New art and music

As promised, almost everything you see is now in house production: the terrain, backgrounds, traps, torches, flags, menus, and HUD. Melon Man himself and the melons remain faithful to the roots of the game. Levels 7 to 12 also have their own new music.

And more

  • Smoother camera, also on high refresh rate displays
  • Greatly improved accuracy for movement and input
  • Night levels with real-time lighting
  • Full gamepad support, with menus made for controllers, and support for Steam Deck / Machine
  • Best times for each difficulty, and a summary at the end of every level
  • Now using Godot as the game engine
  • Lots of fixes, including the wooden plank collision and no more dying after you reach the flag

What's next

More levels are on the way, and you can already see them waiting in the level select. We'll announce once we're closer to releasing more content.

If you get stuck or set a crazy time, tell us in the discussions. And if you like the game, leaving a review helps us a lot.

Thank you to everyone who has played Melon Man so far, and for the veterans that played 1.0, there might be a special achievement just for you. Thanks for being a part of this journey, this update is for you.
