Voices, basics and a goal in sight
REPL and the city now speak 23 languages, the briefing room explains the basics, comfort options always show your next goal – and the download is much smaller.
New Features
- Spoken dialogue for REPL, the AI sphere and every character in 23 languages. Ukrainian has female voices only for now; male characters appear as text there.
- Male characters speak with male voices of their own.
- Choose REPL's voice when starting a new game: female or male.
- Coding basics in the briefing room: six short spoken stations with pictures and mini tasks – skippable and repeatable at any time (key G or the handbook).
- A longer boot intro: the AI tells the story of its crash, with subtitles.
- Six residents of CodeCity tell the city's story; the district contacts have something new to say at every rebuild stage.
- REPL reacts to your progress: power in a district, the first solved terminal, a finished district.
- Always a goal: a goal card on the island and in the city, a golden goal marker with an arrow at the screen edge.
- Ask REPL (key Q): REPL tells you what to do next at any time; when you come back, it reminds you where you were.
- Focus mode in the terminal (F8): world dimmed, music quieter, REPL silent.
- New options tab «Comfort»: REPL hints (off, rare, normal, often) and less motion & effects.
- Rebind keys: Ask REPL, replay basics, focus mode.
- Characters turn to face you while you talk.
Improvements
- Smaller download: voices, music and sound effects are heavily compressed, models are stored in binary form, textures are packed. The sound effects alone shrink from 4 MB to 0.4 MB.
- REPL floats freely beside you instead of sticking to your view, follows you and is easy to talk to.
- Saves, settings and logs live in your user folder (on macOS in ~/Library); existing saves move over automatically on first launch.
- Each platform ships exactly the programming language runtimes it needs.
- Missing translations now fall back to English instead of German.
- A new game starts at full moon.
- The flicker in the intro is much calmer.
- The voices pronounce abbreviations, keys and code symbols correctly in every voiced language – such as W A S D, PHP or C#.
- A few lines where the voice stumbled or kept talking have been re-recorded.
Bug Fixes
- macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel): the game crashed right at startup.
- The compass needle and the scanner bearing pointed straight away from the goal.
- Clouds raced faster the longer you played, and the weather changed every few minutes.
- In summer, the sun in the sky and the lighting did not match.
- Water and waves ran too fast at high frame rates.
- Time of day, season and weather kept running behind the pause menu.
- The moon phase reset to new moon after loading.
- All characters in CodeCity faced the same direction.
