Games around the world

Nine regional card, dice and board games are now part of the voyage. Visit an inn or chief's hut to play its local game for doubloons. Each participating inn has one house game; your host offers a historical invitation before the short rules explanation. You can decline and return later.

Primero — Four-card hands, changing cards and wagering. Opponents can fold, call, raise or bluff.

Triomphe — Partnered trick-taking with a trump suit.

Hazard — A dice contest with a main, a chance and a purse at stake.

Nard — Race your pieces home with the dice.

Ganjifa — Round, painted cards and eight suits, found in Persia and India.

Shogi — A medieval Japanese board with the drunken elephant among its pieces.

Madiao — Chinese money-suited cards for four players.

Seed games — Sow and capture seeds with our Oware rules.

Kōnane — A jumping contest with dark and pale stones, offered in Polynesia.

The full game includes all nine. The Mediterranean demo offers Primero, Triomphe, Hazard and nard. Related cultural variants share a playable ruleset rather than claiming identical historical rules everywhere.

Real stakes, resumable games

  • Winnings and losses change your purse and the port's money. Wagers account for both sides' available funds.
  • The normal menu remains available. Save and quit, then Continue to resume the same table position.
  • Forfeiting warns you about losing your stake, with a chance to stay. Old payments no longer replay visually when a game resumes.
  • If starting a new voyage cannot safely archive or clear the old save, the current table remains playable.
  • Rules, examples and tooltips are available alongside port music and game sound effects.
  • Lifetime results are recorded. There are achievements for winning each game and one for winning all nine. Wins in an imported demo save remain eligible in the full Steam game.

Scenery and fixes

Autumn and winter forest colours form organic patches rather than a regular checkerboard. Ships in city scenes bob in time with the shore's wave cycle.

  • Fixed overlapping played cards and hand captions in Madiao on short windows.
  • Improved recovery when opening city scenes and navigation at river-rail boundaries.
  • Corrected fractional hull labels and missing translations in shipyard, workshop, captive-reward and ledger text.
