GO DUB YOURSELF! — Playtest build 0.8.0

On Steam

GO DUB YOURSELF! — Playtest build 0.8.0

Thanks to everyone who played on Saturday night. Most of this update comes straight from that session.

Online playback fixed

  • Everyone now hears every line at the end of a dub. The host was sending recorded lines faster than Steam could carry them, and the overflow was silently thrown away. Lines are now sent at a pace Steam can handle, and Steam's own limits have been raised.
  • Recorded lines are about 6× smaller on the wire, so they arrive much faster.
  • Playback can't start until every player has every line. An AUDIO SYNC bar shows progress, and a chime plays when everyone's ready.
  • If you fall slightly behind the host during playback, the game now catches you up by speeding up a little instead of skipping.
  • Fixed Pass the Mic sometimes not handing the turn to the next player.
  • Fixed a player getting dropped from the room at the end of a long game.
  • Fixed background audio carrying on after leaving a take mid-playback.

Voice chat

  • Fixed the host not being able to hear the other players.
  • Your own talk light now flashes when the room can hear you. If you're speaking with push-to-talk up, the waiting room tells you which key to hold.

Lobbies and the room

  • Steam invites now work from any screen, and from a closed game.
  • Invited friends skip the room password.
  • The party box on Dub Select now shows who's ready.
  • The party box also shows who's recording (● REC), who's still installing a pack, and how many lines each player has left.
  • Guests now see "waiting for the host" at the end of a game.
  • The host can no longer start until every character has a voice.
  • New: challenge another readied-up player to noughts and crosses while you wait. Look for VS on their row.

LAN / Direct IP

  • Hosting by IP shows your LAN address in the waiting room. It's hidden by default for streamers; use SHOW, or COPY to copy it without revealing it.
  • JOIN BY IP accepts a pasted address:port, and no longer joins an empty room when left on the default address.

Steam Workshop

  • Every Workshop pack now has a REPORT button. It opens the pack's Steam page so you can report it.
  • Pack titles, descriptions, character names and subtitles are checked for slurs and abusive content before upload.
  • Fixed Workshop packs published from the playtest not showing in the browser.

Dub Stage and Clip Studio

  • HEAR IT AGAIN now replays the reference straight away.
  • The voice changer has previous/next arrows, so you no longer cycle all the way round.
  • Clip Studio: the playhead no longer jumps when you drag a line.
  • Clip Studio: imported videos with a separate vocals track now play their dialogue in the editor.

Menus and display

  • The main menu no longer overlaps itself on ultra-wide screens.
  • Dark Mode now applies to the main menu on launch.
  • Escape on Settings goes back to Home. On Home it still offers to exit.

Other

  • The bundled example scene is now Cosmonaut Astronaut.
  • Steam Cloud now syncs your settings, stats, achievements, voice and chat-voting settings, and your victory line.
  • The game keeps logs from your last 10 sessions, which makes bug reports much more useful.

Known issue: on very wide (21:9) screens the main-menu tiles sit right against the left edge.
