Game-On! is open (Early Testing)

On Steam

Game-On! is open (Early Testing)

Our second store has opened its doors - a two-floor video game shop that's been hit by the same tornado as the first. It's brand new, so it's tagged Early Testing on the Level Select screen: please forgive our mess (bugs), and tell us about anything odd with Report a Bug in the pause menu.

The new store

  • 5,650 items to sort across two floors - about twice the size of The Local Game Store.
  • Zenith and Vertex game walls, each split into Action, RPG, Sports & Racing, Cozy & Sandbox and Strategy & Simulation.
  • Genre stickers on every case - a d20, a pistol, a carrot, a checkered flag or a chess rook, in the same colour as its section's sign - so you can tell where a game goes at a glance.
  • The Hopper wall, a RETRO wall of cartridges across five classic-style consoles, and a U-shaped checkout counter full of boxed consoles.
  • Upstairs: 180 collectible figures across 10 factions (each faction has its own shelf), a clothing wall of printed polos, and the Game-On! Theater.
  • An open balcony over the checkout - yes, you can throw things down it.
  • Each store keeps its own save, so Game-On! won't touch your Local Game Store progress.

Three new abilities

New level? New abilities!

  • Fus Ro Dust (5) - a shout that blasts loose items off the floor in a cone. Anything knocked off the balcony lands downstairs.
  • Tetris Tidy (6) - throw a tetromino and every loose item nearby snaps into neat stacks sorted by product. Upgrades widen the area.
  • Portal (7) - place a blue and an orange portal on floors or ceilings. Anything that goes into one comes out of the other, and ceiling portals let items fall through to the floor below.

Throwing feels like throwing now

In both stores.

  • Dropped and thrown items fly with real physics: they arc, spin, bounce and roll to a stop instead of gliding to a fixed spot.
  • A normal throw is a gentle lob that lands where your crosshair points, out to about 8 metres. Look down and it just drops a little in front of you; look ahead and it arcs.
  • Items that land on top of tall shelves get knocked back down to you instead of getting stuck.

Yeet, reworked

  • No more hold-to-charge. Press Yeet to switch it on - while it's on, any item you throw at the shelf it belongs on slots itself into the right spot. You don't need to aim at the exact slot.
  • Throw at the wrong shelf and it flashes red and bounces off.

Ability balance

  • Yeet's and Find's cooldowns now start when the effect ends, not when you press the key. Fully upgraded, both used to have no downtime at all (and no cooldown shown on the hotbar). Base cooldowns come around a bit later than before as a result.
  • Find can't be re-triggered while its glow is still active.
  • Buying a cooldown upgrade mid-cooldown now shortens the wait that's already running, instead of leaving the hotbar icon looking stuck.

Menus

  • New Settings screen, shared by the Main Menu and the pause menu, with everything on one page.
  • Level Select redesigned to match, with a progress bar on each store.
  • Look Sensitivity and Cursor Size can now be changed from the Main Menu too.
  • New loading screen: the menu's backdrop, the store's name, and a progress bar that tells you what it's doing instead of sitting empty and then jumping to full.
  • Credits updated.

Fixed

  • Find (2) now lights up matching loose items again. In the last build its glow was missing, so only the shelf lit up - thanks to everyone who reported it.
  • Already-shelved items now glow softly when you look at them (the same missing glow).
  • Every completed shelf played its completion chime at once when loading a save.
  • The age-rating letter on video game cases was invisible.

Thanks for playing, and for every report you send - Game-On! is the newest store, so it's where we most need your eyes.
