the big ones
- Walking is smooth again. 11.9 made you skid on curves, keyboard diagonals and a slightly wobbly stick, now you only skid on a real u-turn (thanks Senpai for the video)
- Walking speed no longer depends on your frame rate. Fast monitors walked slow and stuttered, slow machines walked too fast
- Autosave no longer freezes the game for a moment. The heavy part of saving now happens in the background while you keep playing, and the save files come out exactly the same
- A little less stutter on Steam Deck and controllers. The game was making a tiny bit of garbage every single frame while a controller was plugged in, and cleaning it up caused small hitches
- You can move your kitchen counters, sinks and wall cabinets again, including the ones your farmhouse starts with, and you can buy more of them at the furniture shop. They used to vanish for good when picked up, so they were locked (thanks epiclurker for asking)
- Top kitchen cabinets hang on the wall properly now, up to the same height as the ones your house starts with. Cabinets, counters and corner pieces snap together, top ones and bottom ones, even when they're different styles
- Going back into shops and houses is faster. The game reuses the room's walking map instead of rebuilding it every time you come in by a different door
animals and farm
- The Lost Pet Whistle works properly again. It called your animals but then got stuck, was never used up, and could leave some clicks not working. It also skipped every other lost animal in other areas, so if you lost 2 in the forest only 1 came back (thanks epiclurker)
- When you pass out, all your animals stop what they were doing. Before, only one of them did and the rest kept chasing whatever they were after
- Pets no longer teleport to you over and over at the race track
- People, pets and monsters stop when the tool wheel or the controller unplugged screen pauses the game, instead of sliding around (thanks Senpai)
- On controller, you can talk to a villager standing next to a mailbox, bin, machine or item again. Whichever is closer wins now
- The journal no longer blacks out people you already have hearts with (thanks mfhaas)
- The heart number over a person now matches the journal
- A big bomb breaks a dirt mound once now, instead of counting it 2 to 4 times and sometimes crashing
look and feel
- Button prompt pictures are full size again (gift, talk, door, pickaxe, shipping bin). Only the arcade icons stay small (thanks Senpai)
- The shipping bin only shows a price for things it will actually buy. No more "can't be sold" pop ups, and no price on things it won't take
- Button prompts over things in the world fade in softly, stay on screen near the edges, and stop blinking when the game runs slow
- A little less stutter with a controller in languages other than English, and in the pickaxe arcade game
- Hovering a card pack shows the open prompt once now, not twice
- The loading screen pictures use about 80MB less memory, they look the same
- Pet skill names, arcade prize names and the "click to sleep" prompt show in your language now, before they were always in English
- Lots of translation fixes. In Czech some characters were saying other people's lines, some were talking as the wrong gender, and a bunch of lines were missing their accents. Same kind of cleanup in Polish, Arabic, Vietnamese, Thai and more. If a line still reads weird in your language, tell me and I'll fix it
crashes and saving
- On Steam Deck, opening the Steam menu now makes a quick backup save, so closing the game from there keeps your progress
- Saving is a bit safer. One failed autosave can't block your next save anymore, and a damaged save file is kept instead of written over
- Steam achievements get more time to load when Steam is slow to start, instead of giving up after a few seconds
- Fixed a rare case where giving a gift took the gift but got stuck half way
- Fixed a crash when fireworks fell out of the mailbox
- Fixed a rare crash when using the hoe, watering can, seeds or soil bags right at the edge of the farm
- Fixed a few rare crashes when gifting on controller, eating, feeding pets, swimming, mining, pulling plants by hand, closing menus, sleeping and starting a Quick Start game
Lots of Love,
David
