The Chinese text
- The new translation from the Russian original now covers the whole novel. Books IV to XII and the epilogue, seventy-two chapters, are new in this update; with the three books that came in 1.0.8, that makes ninety-six chapters of ninety-six. The 1940s Geng Jizhi translation stays selectable in the settings.
- Books I–III were revised together with the rest, so that words which run through the whole novel read the same in every chapter; 192 of their lines have changed. Russia as a country and a state is now 俄国, Russia as a people, a faith, a soul is 俄罗斯; the immortality Ivan argues about is 不朽 wherever it comes up.
- The interface has been translated afresh as well — the choices, the scene captions and the names above the lines, 604 strings — so a name in a caption is now the same name as in the prose.
- Speech that runs over several paragraphs is now set by the Chinese norm: every paragraph opens with a quotation mark, and only the last one closes. In The Grand Inquisitor the Inquisitor's monologue now stays inside Ivan's own telling, as it does in the original.
- In the abridged reading mode, which is the default, more than a hundred excerpts were re-cut so that each one shows exactly the sentence it stands for. Some had lost half a phrase; some had picked up the beginning of the next sentence.
Unabridged mode, all languages
- In sixteen places a passage ran on past its own end and took in the lines that follow it, so those lines were read twice. The longest was the defence counsel's speech in Book XII: it was printed whole, and then the passages after it went through it again, paragraph by paragraph. The second copies are gone — some eighteen thousand characters in the Russian text alone. Nothing of the novel was cut: every sentence is still there, once.
- Book X, chapter 5: Kolya's words as he gives Ilyusha the little bronze cannon never appeared in this mode, in any language — his line was carrying another passage in their place. They are back.
Titles and headings
- The title of Book IX, chapter 3 is now complete in Russian, German, Italian and Spanish: its second half, “The First Ordeal”, had been missing.
- In German, the headings of the novel's parts and of the sections of Father Zosima's life had been replaced by lines of the neighbouring text. They are restored from Röhl's translation, and the running headers now match them.
