Collision Dust & Advanced Controls

On Steam

Collision Dust

Big impacts now kick up clouds. Debris that gets hot enough evaporates into a hazy cloud that glows in the heat of the impact. Some clouds fall back and condense into rock again; others drift off into space.

Dust is off by default. To switch it on: BODY → Advanced → Dust Properties → DUST: ON. The game remembers your choice.

New Advanced menu

There is now an "Advanced" button in the BODY menu, leading to three panels. The first two work while a collision is running, so you see the effect straight away:

• Lava Properties: Impact Heating, Conduction, Radiative Cooling, plus new Lava Threshold (how hot rock must be to glow) and Lava Intensity (how bright it glows)

• Dust Properties: Vaporization, Vapour Pressure, Condensation, Cloud Lifetime, Cloud Size, Haze Opacity and Haze Thinning

• Layer Physics: per-body layer settings.

The look settings (Cloud Size, Haze Opacity, Haze Thinning, Lava Threshold and Lava Intensity) also update on a paused simulation, so you can freeze a collision and restyle it.

The lava settings have moved here from the start menu's Sim Parameters screen, which is gone.

Other improvements

• New Dust Haze graphics option (Off / Low / High) in Options → Graphics

• Saved setups now also store your lava and dust settings

• Recordings and replays include the dust clouds

• Bodies torn apart by a black hole are now simulated more accurately: in Auto mode the gravity solver switches to Barnes-Hut as soon as a body gets close enough to start being ripped apart

• Darker, more dramatic shadows (Advanced shadows)

• New Rate button in the main menu

Fixes

• Changing lava or dust settings during a simulation no longer disturbs it

• Fixed some explosions of large particle-count planets. If ever anything still explodes, try increasing the accuracy.

Enjoying Space Crash Simulator? A Steam review helps a small game more than you might think. Thank you very much :-)
